Rumor: Rosario Dawson Contract Has Option to Play Ahsoka in Multiple Disney+ Shows

By Chris Seekell

We covered reports last month that Ahsoka Tano may be making an appearance in Season 2 of The Mandalorian on Disney+, played by actor Rosario Dawson. Now there is a further rumor about this story.

According to a new, exclusive report from TheDirect.com, Disney's contract with actor Rosario Dawson spans multiple shows. This comes on the heels of reports from reputable sources like Variety and Slashfilm that Ms. Dawson will be debuting as the first live-action incarnation of the beloved animated character in the upcoming second season of Disney+'s smash hit series The Mandalorian.

FROM THEDIRECT.COM:

According to our contributing insider Daniel Richtman, Rosario Dawson's Ahsoka Tano contract is reportedly a multi-show deal. For reference, this is a unique type of contract seen most often with MCU actors and actresses who have signed onto other film and show properties in the past. This is not a confirmation that Rosario Dawson's Ahsoka Tano will indeed appear in other Disney+ shows, rather, that Lucasfilm is potentially interested in having her character make future appearances in other shows, thus including this clause in the contract.

This suggests that Disney believes it is probable that the character of Ahsoka Tano may appear on other shows on the streaming network in addition to The Mandalorian. Currently, we are aware of two future officially announced series, one featuring Ewan McGregor as Obi-Wan Kenobi, and another following the adventures of Cassian Andor with Diego Luna reprising his role from the box office expectation crushing Rogue One: A Star Wars Story.

There are also rumors that Ahsoka may be getting her own series at some point, and Rosario Dawson certainly would be expected to fill that role if it is live-action. This further would explain the necessity for a multi-show option in her contract with Disney.

The character of Ahsoka Tano is an extremely intriguing one for the Star Wars franchise, because she has the ability to span multiple eras in the timeline. Thus far, we have seen her in the Star Wars: The Clone Wars film and series, which take place before Revenge of the Sith, as well as the Star Wars: Rebels series, which covers the length of the Original Trilogy. This means she easily could show up in both the Obi-Wan and Cassian shows, and a show of her own could parallel the events during and after the original 6 saga films. With a comeback happening currently in the final season of Star Wars: The Clone Wars, which was produced exclusively for Disney+, Ahsoka could be the character to potentially tie every original series together.

Finally, it's fascinating to hear more news about Rosario Dawson and her relationship with Disney trickle out, because there is an aura of uncertainty surrounding her status as Disney has yet to make a statement on ongoing litigation involving Ms. Dawson, who has been accused in a lawsuit of harassing and attacking a transman who used to work for her and her family. Stories like this one about her contract leaking may be evidence that Disney expects this case to be dismissed, but ultimately we may not have further information for some time.

Meanwhile, Star Wars fans can look forward to potentially seeing one of their favorite characters not only in the flesh, but in multiple Disney+ series.

Could The Mandalorian be headed to a theater near you? Disney Studios co-chairman and chief creative officer Alan Horn implied this week that it's not out of the realm of possibilities. The studio executive was interviewed at the Variety Business Managers Breakfast on Wednesday and was asked by Variety editor-in-chief Claudia Eller asked Horn if content created for Disney+ might ever "spawn" theatrical releases the same way Disney's theatrical content has spawned Disney+ shows (like The Mandalorian and Marvel's The Falcon and the Winer Soldier)?

One of the characters we met in the first episode of The Mandalorian (available now on Disney+) is the mysterious armorer, played by Emily Swallow (The Mentalist). Her character was only seen briefly in the first episode but she made a big impact on the story, allowing us to have some brief insight into our main character's backstory.  Swallow's involvement in the series was part of the main cast announcement back in December 2018, so it seems unlikely that this is the last we'll see of The Armorer.
