Jon Favreau Shares New Video of Baby Yoda From the Set of 'The Mandalorian'

Ever since The Mandalorian debuted on Disney+ earlier this month, one character has been dominating the conversation: Baby Yoda (or "Yiddle" as we call him on Radio Razorcrest).  And as a special Thanksgiving gift, the character's creator, The Mandalorian showrunner Jon Favreau, has shared a new video of the character from the set.  Favreau posted the video with the caption, "If your Thanksgiving table gets too heated show everyone this video I took on the set of the Mandalorian."  You can check out the video below,

We had previously heard how impressive the Baby Yoda puppet was from various cast members, Werner Herzog ("The Client") was especially impressed with it.  So it's so cool to actually see a raw video from the set with no CGI enhancements, and to see just how much of the performance is a practical effect.

Deborah Chow, director of episode 3 of The Mandalorian (and the Obi-Wan Kenobi show), described what it was like when Baby Yoda was on set in a recent interview with The New York Times, saying,

"With the baby, every time it came on set, the whole crew would respond to it. Even the grip department, every production assistant is coming to the monitors, trying to see it. We definitely knew there’s something special going on with this — we just hoped the rest of the world would feel the same way. "

It's not clear, however, if this video is from season one or season two (which is being filmed right now in California). Regardless, it is clearly from an upcoming episode as we have not yet seen Baby Yoda in the type of carrier seen in the video.

A bunch of new Baby Yoda merchandise was recently unveiled by Lucasfilm, and is available now.  You can see some of it here.

The Mandalorian is set following the events of Return of the Jedi and follows the adventures of a "lone gunfighter", as he navigates the galaxy in the post-Empire/early days of the New Republic.  The first three episodes of the series is available now on Disney+, with episode four being released on Friday. You can check out the trailer for the series below,

The series is available now on Disney+, and stars Pedro Pascal as The Mandalorian, Gina Carrano as Cara Dune, Carl Weathers as Greef Carga, Giancarlo Esposito as Moff Gideon, Nick Nolte as Kuiil, Werner Herzog as "The Client", Emily Swallow as "The Armorer", and Omid Abtahi as Dr. Pershing.  The Mandalorian is executive produced by Jon Favreau and Dave Filoni, with episodes directed by Filoni, Bryce Dallas Howard, Deborah Chow, and Rick Famuyiwa, and Taika Waititi.
