Clerks and Jay and Silent Bob Reboot director JJ Abrams was everywhere during San Diego Comic Con last weekend, talking about all his favourite things. This, of course, included Star Wars. During an interview with IGN, he spoke about his visit to the set of Star Wars: The Rise Of Skywalker last year. He revealed that during his visit, members of the crew told him to ask director JJ Abrams to let him visit a very specific set for a very specific scene. Smith then recalled that Abrams told him that the set in question was for the very final shot of the film and that he would regret having the experience of seeing it in a movie theater spoiled if he saw the set.
You can watch the interview with Smith where he tells the story below,
Kevin Smith talks about the last shot of Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker: crew members said seeing it would "melt your mind." #SDCC2019 pic.twitter.com/BtJ4E06hu9— IGN (@IGN) July 20, 2019
The question now is, what is that final scene and what is the location that will "melt your mind"? We'll all find out together in about a five months.
Smith has an extended history with Abrams' Star Wars films. Back in 2014 he was one of the first people to talk publicly about visiting the set of The Force Awakens. He then went on to lend his voice to a stormtrooper in the film. He also revealed earlier this year that he had been to the set of The Rise Of Skywalker, once again offering the film high praise. But the most infamous time the director crossed paths with Abrams' Star Wars movies was at Comic Con 2015, when Abrams and Lucasfilm emptied out Hall H after The Force Awakens panel, taking all attendees to a live Star Wars concert with the San Diego symphony orchestra. The only downside, Smith was slated to appear on stage after the Star Wars panel and now had to perform for a virtually empty hall.
You can watch Smith hilariously retell that story while on a panel at this year's Comic Con (warning, this clip contains mature language),
