Lucasfilm announced today that the Emmy nominated first season of the animated series Star Wars Resistance is coming to DVD on August 20th. The DVD set will include all 21 episodes from season one, four audio commentaries with members of the cast, a behind the scenes featurette, 22 episodes of Resistance Rewind (originally released on the Star Wars YouTube channel), and all twelve shorts that were released over the course of the show's winter break.
The behind the scenes featurette is titled "Path of Resistance", and is described as follows, "Join supervising director Justin Ridge and the cast of Star Wars Resistance for a special look at the past, present, and future of the show." The episodes featuring the cast commentary are, "The Higher Tower", "The Platform Classic", "Bibo", and "No Escape: Part 2". The cast members featured on the commentaries are Christopher Sean (Kazuda Xiono), Myrna Velasco (Torra Doza), Scott Lawrence (Jarek Yeager), and Josh Brener (Neeku Vozo).
As a fan of the series, I am very much looking forward to bringing home the series on home media next month, and to check out the bonus features included. However, I am disappointed by the fact that the season seems to be only getting a DVD release, and not a blu-ray release. The show's visuals are definitely worthy of being released in HD. Hopefully, Lucasfilm will get around to releasing the season in other formats than just DVD (if nothing else, hopefully the series will be released in HD on Disney+ this fall).
The second season of Star Wars Resistance will debut in the Fall on Disney Channel and Disney XD. The first season took place just prior to the events of The Force Awakens, with the finale taking place during the events of that film. Season two is slated to pick things up in the immediate aftermath of that finale and take us into the time between The Last Jedi and The Rise Of Skywalker.
If you haven't checked out Resistance yet, there's still plenty of time to get caught up before season two. And if you, make sure to listen to The Kazuda Kast podcast, where every week our I'm joined by co-hosts and our guest to discuss the latest episode!
