With just hours to go before Star Wars Celebration kicks off in Orlando, Lucasfim has announced a brand series of animated series focusing on the heroines of Star Wars! The series is titled Star Wars: Forces of Destiny and will debut on the Disney YouTube channel this July. The series will cover multiple eras of Star Wars and will feature Daisy Ridley, Lupita Nyong'o, and Felicity Jones reprising their roles as Rey, Maz Kanata and Jyn Erso in the series. Also reprising their roles on the series are Star Wars animation veterans Ashley Eckstein as Ahsoka Tano, Matt Lanter as Anakin Skywalker, Tiya Sircar as Sabine Wren, and Vanessa Marhsall as Hera Syndulla. You can check out a special preview for the series below,
The series was first announced by Anthony Breznican over at Entertainment Weekly. According to Breznican, one of the Rey shorts will feature, "Rey battling the thieving Jakku scavenger Teedo to protect BB-8 while on their way to Nimma Outpost for their fateful encounter with Finn." There will also be a Leia episode set on Endor that will feature Leia and Han teaming up with Star Wars Rebels star Hera Syndulla.
The primary goal of the series is to appeal to fans, who are just now being introduced to Star Wars through the current films and animated projects. Executive Producer Carrie Beck explained to EW that,
“That’s really the challenge: How do we make this relevant for somebody who is new to Star Wars – and someone who has experienced all of Star Wars. We have these new access points for kids, but [the shorts] aren’t so reliant on knowing everything else that’s happened in Star Wars history.”
The episodes are all approximately three minutes long and were written by Jen Muro (Justice League Action). Muro first teased the project back in August 2016, when she tweeted a picture of herself outside the main house at Skywalker Ranch. She took to Twitter again tonight to further express her excitement,

Also announced to accompany the series are a new line of Hasbro action figures which, according to EW, "aim to blend the qualities of traditional dolls (11-inch height, rooted hair, changeable outfits) with old-school action figures (weapon accessories, battle attacks)." The individual figures will cost $19.99, though some playsets and premium figures will cost more.
