#TBT: John Williams Discusses Scoring 'The Empire Strikes Back' In 1980 Documentary

Yesterday John Williams turned 85 years old. While we continue to enjoy his scores for the first seven live action Star Wars films, and look forward to hearing the music he's currently composing for Star Wars: The Last Jedi, in this special "throwback" we want to take a a look back at some Williams' earliest work.


In a fascinating 22-minute documentary that surfaced on YouTube, courtesy of Eyes On Cinema, we get up close and personal with John Williams during his time scoring his second Star Wars film, The Empire Strikes Back. The rare footage treats us to behind the scenes looks at the process of composing and scoring the music for the film along with interviews with John Williams himself and appearances by the maker himself George Lucas, director Irvin Kershner, and producer Gary Kurtz.
