Ever since Lucasfilm was purchased by Disney is October 2012 fans have been wondering when the Star Wars presence at the Disney Parks would increase. It seems that, with the D23 Expo happening next month, we are on the cusp on an announcement regarding this. A new report from ThisIsInframous.com suggests that Disney will announce a $3 Billion overhaul of Disney's Hollywood Studios at Disney World in Orlando, Florida. This would include at least two new Star Wars attractions, in addition to the already existing "Star Tours" ride and Jedi Training Academy interactive show, including, "a Dagobah centerpiece for where Echo Lake and Gertie the Dinosaur currently reside." It is also believed that the Jedi Training Academy will be moved in doors.
This overhaul will come at a cost. Most of the current rides and attractions at Hollywood Studios will be shutting down to make room for the new stuff. The only exceptions being, The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror, Rock ‘N’ Roller Coaster, Toy Story Mania and the Great Movie Ride. This includes the "Indiana Jones Stunt Spectacular Show," which has been rumored to be on its last legs for some time now. But Indy fans need not worry too much, an updated version of the "Indiana Jones Adventure" ride at Disneyland in California is reportedly going to make its debut at Disney World as part of the overhaul.
Disney is expected to announce these changes during the D23 Expo which takes place in Anaheim from August 14th-16th. As for how long this will take, ThisIsInfamous.com writes,
"Now the time frame for all of this to be completed is a bit of a mystery. Disney is well aware that the park remains popular,
and they’d like to keep guests coming through the turnstiles as they
work through this period of transition. As a result, you’re not just
going to see each of the rides and shows set to go closing their doors
all at once. Disney will be moving through in waves, knowing that a
handful of rides aren’t going to be enough to satisfy their crowds."
If this all is true, then D23 is going to be an exciting time for Star Wars and Disney fans. Hopefully some of the other rumored attractions like the Millennium Falcon walk through and Mos Eisley Catina restaurant are part of the overhaul.
As always this is just a rumor until confirmed or denied by Lucasfilm or Disney,
