The 91st Academy Awards will be happening this Sunday in Hollywood! With Solo: A Star Wars Story nominated in the category of Best Visual Effects, Star Wars fans and creators alike are hopeful that another Oscar could be headed to a Galaxy far, far away.
Star Wars: The Last Jedi contains many bittersweet moments, but perhaps none more so than the scenes involving Carrie Fisher as General Leia. Fisher died unexpectedly late last year, but her final scenes for the film were already shot meaning The Last Jedi did not need to be changed. But it did give double meaning to certain lines and moments (the ones that really hit me are Leia saying to Luke "I'm just glad you're here, at the end" and Luke saying to her "No one is ever really gone").
We're now just three days away from the release of Star Wars: The Last Jedi in theaters and the film's cast is everywhere! One of the most recent appearances by the cast was a "Autocomplete Interview" they did with WIRED magazine. In the video Mark Hamill, Daisy Ridley, John Boyega, Kelly Marie Tran, Laura Dern, and Domhnall Glesson answer questions about Star Wars and themselves that are taken from Google's autocomplete feature. This week's episode of Lucasfilm's weekly YouTube Star Wars variety show, The Star Wars Show, features interviews with the cast and crew of The Last Jedi from last weekend's press event in LA, as well as a new behind the scenes featurette. The featurette focuses on C-3PO actor Anthony Daniels teaching the performers who play the droid waiters on Canto Bight in The Last Jedi how to move like proper protocol droids. With the release of Star Wars: The Last Jedi less than two weeks away, the cast and crew are popping up everywhere to promote it. Over the weekend, Lucasfilm held a press event in Los Angeles where many interviews were conducted. We've attempted to compile as many of those new interviews as possible for you to check out at your leisure below.

Earlier today several members of the cast of Star Wars: The Last Jedi took part in a Facebook live Q&A where they answered (pre-selected and pulled from a stormtrooper helmet) questions submitted by fans. The cast was split into two groups for the Q&As, with one group comprising of John Boyega, Gwendoline Christie, Laura Dern and Mark Hamill, and the other being comprised of Daisy Ridley, Domhnall Gleeson, and Kelly Marie Tran. A big part of promoting any movie is the talk show appearances by the cast, and Star Wars is no different. Starting next week and leading up until the release of the film on December 15th it will be hard to miss seeing the cast of Star Wars: The Last Jedi showing up on various talk shows. So expect lots of fun behind the scenes stories, vague hints about the plot, and fond memories of the late Carrie Fisher to dominate the discussions. Hopefully we'll get a clip or two thrown in there too!
When Star Wars: The Last Jedi opens in theaters next month, one of the new characters we'll be seeing on screen for the first time is Laura Dern's Vice Admiral Amilyn Holdo. Holdo will step in to help the Resistance in its hour of need, but her leadership style will clash with that of Oscar Isaac's X-Wing pilot Poe Dameron. The two actors discussed their characters relationship in a new interview with Entertainment Weekly's Anthony Breznican. The interview was a released as part of EW's online coverage of The Last Jedi, which coincides with a cover story about the film in this week's issue.
One of the new characters we will be meeting when Star Wars: The Last Jedi hits theaters this December is Resistance Vice Admiral Amilyn Holdo, played by Emmy winning actress Laura Dern. Dern appeared on The Ellen Show this week and she spoke briefly about her role in the new film, telling the story of how she made "pew pew" noises on set while shooting her blaster. In addition, a new still image of Dern as Holdo was revealed on the show. You can watch the clip below,
Last week Disney's D23 Expo took place in Anaheim and it included an assortment of amazing events and reveals. One of the most exciting things to happen at the convention was the appearance of the cast and director of Star Wars: The Last Jedi on stage, who were there to introduce a stunning behind the scenes reel from the film. Of course, while the group was there they participated in a number of interviews with various sources, including Good Morning America, Access Hollywood, Extra, Jimmy Kimmel, and more.
A couple of weeks ago, on May the 4th, we learned that scoring was underway on Star Wars: Episode VIII The Last Jedi when composer John Williams and director Rian Johnson posted a special video greeting from the session. Another scoring session took place today with a couple of excited people on hand to witness it. In addition to Williams and Johnson, who were there for obvious reasons, The Last Jedi stars Mark Hamill and Laura Dern also took in the scoring session. Hamill and Dern both tweeted a couple of pictures from the experience,
Everyone knows that the level of secrecy surrounding a Star Wars movie is insane and the cast is not allowed to tell anyone what's going to happen in the film. You might think an exception could be made for immediate family members, but this is not the case for Laura Dern who will be joining the Star Wars galaxy later this year in Star Wars Episode VIII: The Last Jedi. In a recent interview with Yahoo! Movies, Dern confesses that she won't even tell her children (aged 15 and 12) anything about the film.
Two people making their big Star Wars debut this year are The Last Jedi star Laura Dern and director Rian Johnson. Johnson took the sequel trilogy baton from JJ Abrams and will soon be passing it off to Colin Trevorrow, but not without leaving his mark on the Star Wars galaxy. One of of his decisions was to cast Dern, best known for her role in Jurassic Park as a new character in the film.
In addition to bringing back classic icons like Luke Skywalker and new icons like Rey, Star Wars: The Last Jedi will introduce us to several new characters, including one played by Laura Dern (Jurassic Park, F is for Family). Little is known about Dern's character, who did her best to keep it that way during a recent appearance on The Late Late Show with James Cordon. When Star Wars Episode VIII hits theaters in December it will feature the final performance by Carrie Fisher in her iconic role as Leia Organa. It will also introduce Laura Dern to the Star Wars galaxy in a yet to be revealed role. Lucasfilm announced today in a post on StarWars.com that production on Star Wars Episode VIII had officially begun! They also announced three newcomers to the cast, confirmed which The Force Awakens stars were returning, and released an awesome video of director Rian Johnson, Mark Hamill, Daisy Ridley, and the rest of the crew filming scenes on Skellig Michael (the location from the end of The Force Awakens).
