Chris Terrio Explains Why Rose Tico Is Barely In 'The Rise Of Skywalker'

As the finale (for now) to the Skywalker Saga, Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker gets a lot of things right (the final show down between "all the Sith" and "all the Jedi", for instance).  It also gets several things wrong (Rey being a Palpatine is, in my book, a huge misstep).  And while most of these distinctions will fuel fan discussions for decades to come, one area where the film undeniably gets it wrong in a way doesn't lead to fun debate or fan theories is how underused the character of Rose Tico is.

'The Rise of Skywalker' Cast & Crew Interviews

With just over a week until the release of Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker in theaters, the cast and crew are everywhere.  Late last week there was a press conference for the film, and the cast also sat down for many one-on-one interviews with various press outlets, many of which we've highlighted (along with some other fun interviews) below.  Some of the people feeatured are stars Daisy Ridley, John Boyega, Billy Dee Williams, Anthony Daniels, Joonas Suotamo, Naomi Ackie and Kelly Marie Tran, and director JJ Abrams.

Adam Driver & Kelly Marie Tran Talk 'The Rise of Skywalker' On 'Good Morning America'

With less than two week's until Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker hits theaters, the cast of the film is everywhere talking about.  This week two more cast members made appearances on Good Morning America.  First, Kylo Ren actor, Adam Driver appeared on the show where he talked about his background as a marine and how he likes to scare people on set.  Then, Rose Tico actor, Kelly Marie Tran spoke about her reaction to seeing the film for the first time and her history with the franchise.

'The Rise of Skywalker' Press Conference Recap

The cast and principle crew members of Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker gathered in Los Angeles to hold a press conference promoting the film's released later this month.  The conference was moderated by Selma and A Wrinkle In Time director Ava DuVarney, and featured director JJ Abrams, co-writer Chris Terio, and producer and Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy, as well as cast members Daisy Ridley, Adam Driver, John Boyega, Oscar Isaac, Keri Russel, Billy Dee Williams, Naomi Ackie, Richard E. Grant, Kelly Marie Tran, and Anthony Daniels.

Star Wars: The Last Jedi star Kelly Marie Tran has broken her silence over the online harassment she received following the film's release, which resulted in her deleting her Instagram account back in June.  The actress, who will reprise her role as Rose next year in Star Wars Episode IX, had not spoken publicly about the events that led her to this decision.  Until now.  This morning The New York Times published a lengthy editorial titled "I Won’t Be Marginalized by Online Harassment" by Tran where she addressed what happened.  We've highlighted some key sections below.

BREAKING: 'Star Wars Episode IX' Cast Revealed, Filming Begins Next Week (Updated!)

Lucasfilm has officially announced the full cast of Star Wars Episode IX and confirmed that the film will begin shooting next week on August 1st at Pinewood Studios in London, England.  The announcement revealed that newcomers to the saga Naomi Ackie and Richard E. Grant will join the cast, which also sees Billy Dee Williams reprise his role as Lando Calrissian from The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi

Simon Pegg Says He's "Ashamed" Of His Past Comments About Jar Jar Binks

Just a couple of years ago, Mission Impossible and Star Trek star Simon Pegg compared George Lucas making the Star Wars prequels to infanticide and said he had no respect for anyone who enjoyed them.  And those were just the latest in a long line of comments Pegg made over more than a decade about his disdain for the Star Wars prequels.  The sentiment Pegg espoused was one that many shared, a deep, toxic hatred for those three films, with one character bearing the brunt of their hate: Jar Jar Binks.

Stephen Colbert Shows His Support For Kelly Marie Tran With 'Episode IX' Parody Trailer

Late last week, Star Wars: The Last Jedi actress Kelly Marie Tran (Rose Tico) deleted her Instagram account after months of harassment from racists and misogynists who are using Star Wars as an excuse to harass people.  The following days have seen a wave of people coming out in support of Tran and to condemn these so-called "fans" who think what they are doing is even remotely acceptable.  One of the highest profile people to do so is The Late Show host Stephen Colbert, who addressed the news in one of his monologues and then shared a parody trailer for Star Wars Episode IX: Shut The Hell Up You Broken Hateful Dweebs.  Check it out below,

Another 'The Last Jedi' Gag Reel Released

Lucasfilm has released a second gag reel from the production of Star Wars: The Last Jedi online this week.  The new reel is about a minute and a half long, and is different from the one released on Tuesday.  This new one focuses on Daisy Ridley, Oscar Isaac, and John Boyega.  Some highlights include more of Mark Hamill getting nostalgic in an X-Wing cockpit and John Boyega struggling with the line "bio-hexacrpyt".  Check it out below,

'The Last Jedi' Blooper Reel Released Online

A new blooper reel from the filming of Star Wars: The Last Jedi has been released online by Entertainment Tonight.  The clip, which is about a minute and a half long, features several humourous moments with members of the cast including Oscar Isaac, Carrie Fisher, John Boyega, and Mark Hamill.  Highlights include many alternate takes of Fisher slapping Isaac, and Mark Hamill in street clothes taking a trip down memory lane by sitting in an X-Wing cockpit.  You can check out the video for yourself below,

Eight New 'Forces of Destiny' Episodes Released

The latest series of episodes in the animated mico-series Star Wars: Forces of Destiny were released online on the official Disney YouTube channel today.  The episodes feature characters from across all Star Wars time periods, including Padme Amidala, Ahsoka Tano, Sabine Wren, Hera Syndulla, Jyn Erso, Luke Skywalker, Leia Organa, Maz Kanata, Rose Tico, and Rey.  They also feature many of the characters' original actors reprising their roles for the series, including Daisy Ridley, Kelly Marie Tran, John Boyega, Ashley Eckstein, Tiya Sircar, Lupita Nyong'o, and Mark Hamill.  You can see all eight episodes below,

New 'Forces of Destiny' Episodes Coming March 19th

Lucasfilm announced today that eight more episodes of the animated micro-series Star Wars: Forces of Destiny will debut on the Disney YouTube channel on Monday March 19th at 10:00am PT.  The episodes will also all air together as a TV special on the Disney Channel on March 25th at 9:50pm.  This new season will feature episodes focused on Ahsoka Tano, Padme Amidala, Rose Tico, Rey, Jyn Erso, Leia Organa, and Luke Skywalker.  Luke will be the first male character to received their own episode of the series (though characters like Han Solo, Anakin Skywalker, and Finn have appeared on the series, they have been in supporting roles).

Watch Mark Hamill Get His Star On the Hollywood Walk of Fame

Today, Luke Skywalker actor Mark Hamill was honoured with a star on the famous "Hollywood Walk of Fame" in Los Angeles.  Hamill was on hand for the ceremony, alongside Star Wars creator George Lucas and Han Solo actor Harrison Ford, both of whom spoke in tribute to their friend and colleague.  Also in attendance at the event was The Last Jedi director Rian Johnson, Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy, Rose Tico actress Kelly Marie Tran, and Lt. Connix actoress Billie Lourd (who is also the daughter of the late Carrie Fisher), as well as members of Hamill's family.  You can watch the complete induction ceremony below,

Mark Hamill, Oscar Isaac, and Kelly Marie Tran To Present At The Oscars

Even if The Last Jedi doesn't win in any of the categories for which it is nominated at the 90th annual Academy Awards next month, Star Wars will still be represented on stage.  The Academy announced the presenters for this year's Oscars and The Last Jedi stars Mark Hamill, Oscar Isaac, and Kelly Marie Tran are among those who will be announcing the winners.  Also announced as presenter was Hamilton creator Lin-Manuel Miranda, who also co-wrote the song "Jabba Flow" with JJ Abrams for The Force Awakens.
