Star Tours II: The Adventure Continues is getting its first major update since 2017 later this year.  Lucasfilm announced today that a new addition, featuring a new location and characters from Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker.  The new destination will be added to the existing ride at Disneyland Resort in California, Walt Disney World Resort in Florida, Tokyo Disneyland Park, and Disneyland Paris on December 20th (the same day the film hits theaters).

The new destination is the moon Kef Bir, where we see the ruins of Death Star II in the ocean in The Rise of Skywalker. This is the first time we've heard the name of this world.  Prior speculation had been that it was merely an ocean on the forest moon of Endor, last seen in Return of the Jedi.

Star Tours first opened at the Disney Parks in 1987, and the ride took fans on a journey that culminated in a Death Star attack.  It closed down in 2010, and reopened in 2011 under the name Star Tours II: The Adventure Continues.  The new ride featured six locations from the Star Wars saga, and fans would visit two of them (randomly selected) per ride.

In 2015, Jakku was added to the rotation to tie-in with the release of The Force Awakens.  The new addition also featured an appearance from John Boyega as Finn.  2017 saw the addition of a new mission to tie-in with The Last Jedi and the theme park expansion Galaxy's Edge.  The addition started on Crait, featuring Oscar Isaac and Domhnall Gleeson as Poe Dameron and General Hux respectively, and concluded on Baatu.
