Count Dooku Arrives In 'Star Wars Battlefront II'

Since the game was released last year, Electronic Arts has been working hard to bring plenty of new elements to Star Wars Battlefront II! After their first Battlefront outing lacked Prequel era content, the developers have made efforts to make up for it with several new additions from the Prequel Trilogy and Star Wars: The Clone Wars. After adding the planet Geonosis, as well as hero characters Obi-Wan Kenobi and General Grievous, their newest addition is an exciting one.

Today, Lucasfilm and EA officially announced that Count Dooku is now part of Star Wars Battlefront II. The infamous former Jedi turned Sith Lord, who had a pivotal role in Attack Of The Clones and Revenge Of The Sith, as well as the entirety of The Clone Wars animated series, is now a playable character in the game.

Included in Dooku's arsenal of features are a Lightning Stun attack, along with Expose Weakness and Duelist abilities. Dooku is now playable in his classic tunic and cape, but EA promises that an additional "Dark Ritual" costume, based on Dooku's appearance season six of The Clone Wars, will also be available on January 30th. They also tease another unspecified look for Dooku is forthcoming in the near future. For a breakdown of Count Dooku's appearance and abilities in the game, check out the video below:

In addition, we also got a preview of what Dooku will sound like. As we previously learned, veteran voice actor Corey Burton, who voiced Dooku in Star Wars: The Clone Wars, will be reprising his role in the video game. We were treated to some snippets of some banter between Burton's Dooku and Matt Lanter's Anakin Skywalker (who is coming to the game in February) in some audio clips there were released here and here. EA even dropped a list of examples of lines of dialogue you will hear Dooku say while you're playing:

  • Count Dooku of Serenno, at your service.”
  • “It is obvious that this contest cannot be decided by our knowledge of the Force... but by our skills with a lightsaber.”
  • “Hope is something we cannot allow our enemy to possess.”
  • “I did not bring you here to flit about like some Toydarian.”
  • “I would have thought you had learned your lesson.”
  • “Tell me what you want and I will show you how the dark side can help you achieve it.”
  • “Ignorance of the Force will not save you from it.”

StarWars.com also spoke with the game's assistant producer Michael Dailey about the process of bringing Count Dooku in Star Wars Battlefront II. You can check out a few excerpts below, and the full interview over on StarWars.com:

On developing a gameplay identity for Dooku in Battlefront II:

“One of the most important things to nail down first is: What should the fantasy around this particular character be when you play as them in Star Wars Battlefront II? Dooku is a duelist, so that’s the approach we took with him. To realize this, Dooku was designed to be a hero with great advantages in close combat. His basic lightsaber attacks deal higher damage, he is able to more effectively deflect enemy lightsaber attacks, and two of his three abilities give him further advantages in close-up lightsaber encounters.”

On how players should strategize when playing as Dooku:

“Where Dooku excels is in one-on-one fights with other lightsaber wielding heroes — because of this, I imagine he will be quite a popular choice for Heroes VS Villains. I’ve already talked a bit about his strengths both offensively and defensively with a lightsaber, but it’s equally important to know his weaknesses.  Dooku is less effective than others at deflecting ranged attacks, meaning you will want to avoid long-range encounters and get in close to best utilize his strengths. You will want to avoid being surrounded by too many enemies, as Dooku has fewer abilities suited for dealing with groups of enemies. If you do find yourself confronted by a large group, take advantage of Dooku’s Lightning Stun ability to damage and knock down the enemies in your way, then quickly follow up with some lightsaber attacks to finish them off before they can recover.”

It should also be noted that as part of Battlefront II's January update, Geonosis will now be available for the Heroes vs. Villains, Blast, and Custom Arcade game modes going forward. You can find more information by visiting EA's official Star Wars site.
