Star Wars has been called a lot of things over the past 40 years, but few words describe the franchise better than the word "fun". While the heavy, more emotional moments stick with us, the fun of Star Wars is what keeps us coming back. Someone who seems to understand this fully is Donald Glover, who is portraying a younger Lando Calrissian in Solo: A Star Wars Story.
Glover recently spoke with Ash Crossan from Entertainment Tonight and the two discussed a variety of topics, including his influence on Marvel's latest blockbuster, Black Panther, as well as the inspirations behind the second season Atlanta, a series he creates and stars in. Of course, Crossan managed to squeeze in some conversation about Solo, and Donald Glover had some exciting things to say about the film:
“It's just a lot more fun... All the Star Wars are fun, but [with] this movie, we know what's gonna happen … we know they're not gonna die. We know what happens, but how we get there is the crux of it, so we're allowed to have a lot more fun than in the other movies, where you have to deal with a lot of lineage and what's going to happen. I think this movie's just a fun, summer film. I'm really excited about it.”
You can watch the full interview below:
Donald Glover stars alongside Alden Ehrenreich (Hail Caesar!) as Han Solo, Emilia Clarke (Game of Thrones) as Qi'Ra, Woody Harrelson (True Detective) as Tobias Beckett, Phoebe Waller-Bridge (Fleabag) as L3-3K, Thandie Newton (Westworld) as Val, and Paul Bettany (The Avengers) as Dryden Vos. The film is directed by Ron Howard (A Beautiful Mind), with a script by Lawrence Kasdan (The Empire Strikes Back) and his son Jon Kasdan (The First Time). Solo: A Star Wars Story hits theaters on May 25th, 2018.
