George Lucas Celebrates the 40th Anniversary of 'Star Wars' at the Grand Prix de Monaco

Star Wars creator George Lucas celebrated the 40th anniversary of the release of his 1977 film this weekend in way that should come as no surprise to his long time fans.  Lucas was joined by stormtroopers and R2-D2 at the Formula 1 Grand Prix de Monaco 2017 in Monte Carlo.  The Renault Sport F1 Twitter account tweeted some pictures from the festivities.

This past Thursday marked the 40th anniversary of the release of the original Star Wars film on May 25, 1977.   This was the second 40th anniversary celebration Lucas has been involved in, despite distancing himself from the franchise after selling Lucasfilm to Disney in 2012.  Lucas also appeared along Harrison Ford, Mark Hamill, Hayden Christensen, and John Williams at the 40th anniversary celebration panel at Star Wars Celebration Orlando in April, which you can watch for yourself below,
