The year 2016 was unfortunately trademarked by a stunning number of celebrity deaths, which included legends like Prince, Gene Wilder, Alan Rickman, David Bowie, Muhammad Ali and many others. In the Star Wars community we also lost several beloved icons. Below we put together a tribute to all those who left us last year. Our thoughts and prayers go out to all their families and friends as we bid a final farewell to these artists who left their marks on the Star Wars saga.

Alethea McGrath | June 1, 1920 – February 9, 2016
McGrath portrayed Jedi librarian Jocasta Nu in Attack Of The Clones.

Gordon "Drewe" Henley | 1940 - February 14, 2016
The English actor played Garven Dreis, A.K.A Red Leader in 1977's A New Hope.
Months after his death, archival footage was used to insert Henley's character into
the climactic space battle above Scarif in Rogue One.

Tony Dyson | April 13, 1947 - March 3, 2016
Dyson's biggest contribution to the Star Wars saga was building the first
R2-D2s that were used in the production of A New Hope.

Ian Watkin | January 25, 1940 - May 18, 2016
Watkin was originally cast in small role in Attack Of The Clones, but was
later replaced by a Droid. Although he didn't make it into the final film,
he remains forever linked to Star Wars.

Erik Bauersfeld | June 28, 1922 – April 3, 2016
A seasoned voice actor and radio dramatist, Bauersfeld provided the voices for
Admiral Ackbar and Bib Fortuna in Return Of The Jedi. In 2015 he returned
to once again voice Ackbar in The Force Awakens

Ronald Falk | August 23, 1935 - June 27, 2016
Falk provided the voice of Obi-Wan Kenobi's old friend
Dexter Jettster in Attack Of The Clones.

Kenny Baker | August 24, 1934 - August 13, 2016
The tiny British actor was best known to the world as the man underneath the dome
of R2-D2 in many Star Wars films. In Return Of The Jedi he had an
additional role as the Speeder Bike stealing Ewok Paploo.

Michael Leader | 1938 – August 22, 2016
The actor was said to have portrayed the Stormtrooper in A New Hope who
iconically bumps his on a door aboard the Death Star.

Ian Liston | August 4, 1948 - October 5, 2016
Liston is best know for playing Wedge's Snowspeeder gunner, Wes Janson,
as well as an AT-AT gunner in The Empire Strikes Back.

Peter Sumner | January 29, 1942 - November, 2016
The Australian actor is best known for portraying lieutenant Pol Treidum
in A New Hope, who utters the famous line, "TK-421, why aren't
you at your post?" He also operated the Dianoga puppet seen in
the trash compactor sequence.

Carrie Fisher | October 21, 1956 – December 27, 2016
By far the biggest loss we experienced this year was the tragic death of
Carrrie Fisher, who was known to the World as Princess, and General, Leia Organa
in Episodes IV, V, VI and VII. Her work beyond Star Wars, as well as her unique
personality in real life, captured the hearts and minds of millions. Because she had finished
filming her scenes for Star Wars: Episode VIII, we will see Carrie again as Leia
when the eighth installment of the saga hits theaters on December 15, 2017.

If we happen to miss any significant deaths in Star Wars community, please let us know in the comments below so we can swiftly add them here!
