In a new preview for Marvel's upcoming miniseries Star Wars: Darth Maul on StarWars.com, a couple of pages from the first issue were revealed. The pages, still in black and white, feature Maul in a showdown with Rathtars, the species Han Solo was hauling on that freighter him and Chewie owned when they first appeared in The Force Awakens. While this likely isn't major plot point in the upcoming series, it is cool to see elements from the new films being incorporated into other media set in other eras. Check them out below,
StarWars.com also interviewed the writer of the series Cullen Buun about what we can expect from the series. The series is set prior to the events of The Phantom Menace, though Buun promises we will see elements of Maul's personality from later appearances incorporated. According to Buun,
In The Phantom Menace, we saw him as a chained beast, pacing
angrily as he waited to murder Jedi, but we really only glimpsed a
small part of his personality.
In later iterations, he showed how cunning and devious he could be,
and we saw hints of grief and loss and even guilt. I figure those things
were all part of his personality, and I wanted to depict a well-rounded
Maul in this series. He’s younger than he was in any of his on-screen
appearances, but there are still shades of the man he will become.
StarWars.com also revealed several new variant covers for the first issue of the series, such as the one below by Alex Ross,
