The future of Star Wars publishing was on full display this afternoon at New York Comic Con, as nine Star Wars authors took the stage to look back on their already published books and to preview what was coming next.  The panel was moderated by Lucasfilm publishing's Michael Siglain, who closed out the hour long session with a series of rapid fire announcements of new books and comics that would be coming out in the next year.  Here's what was announced,

New 'Thrawn: Treason' Preview Excerpt Released

Lucasfilm and Disney have released a new preview excerpt from the upcoming novel Star Wars Thrawn: Treason, hitting shelves on July 23rd.  The novel is the third in a series of novels by author Timothy Zahn, and continues the story of Grand Admiral Thrawn's exploits in the Imperial Navy between the events of Revenge of the Sith and A New Hope, while also tying in with the animated series Star Wars Rebels.  The new excerpt was released on StarWars.com, and features an exchange between Thrawn, Grand Moff Tarkin, Emperor Palpatine, and Director Orson Krennic.  You can read part of the excerpt below,

Del Rey Reveals The SDCC Exclusive Cover For 'Thrawn: Treason'

San Diego Comic Con (SDCC) is just under a month away, and as usual we can expect to see a plethora of Star Wars merchandise that we be exclusive to that convention.  This year, Del Rey Publishing will be continuing their tradition of releasing an exclusive cover, that will only be available during the convention, for a new Star Wars novel.  This year, the novel getting an SDCC exclusive cover will be Star Wars Thrawn: Treason by Tim Zahn.

New Novel 'Star Wars: Thrawn: Treason' Announced

Lucasfilm and Del Rey announced the next installment in author Timothy Zahn's new series of Thrawn novel.  The third book, titled Star Wars: Thrawn: Treason, was announced today on the most recent episode of The Star Wars Show.  The novel is slated to hit shelves in Summer 2019, and is a follow-up to the 2017 novel Star Wars Thrawn and its 2018 sequel Star Wars: Thrawn: Alliances.  You can see the announcement on The Star Wars Show below,

Seven 'Star Wars' Authors Annouced As Guests For Celebration Chicago

Lucasfilm announced today seven authors of Star Wars books who will be appearing at Star Wars Celebration Chicago next year.  The list covers several genres, including adult novels, YA novels, and kids books.  The authors will be on hand to meet with fans, sign autographs, and take part in panel discussions (previous Celebrations have featured writing workshops and discussions hosted by Star Wars authors, in addition to the big announcements panel).

'Thrawn: Alliances' Hits #1 On The New York Times Best Sellers List

Last week, the latest Star Wars novel written by Timothy Zahn, Thrawn: Alliances, was released with great anticipation.  That anticipation has yielded a very exciting result for Zahn and the teams at Del Rey Books and Lucasfilm publishing.  The book hit #1 on The New York Times Best Sellers list in the Hardcover Fiction category, beating out the Bill Clinton and James Patterson novel The President is Missing and Daniel Silva's The Other Woman.

'Thrawn: Alliances' Excerpt and SDCC Exclusive Cover Revealed

The next installment in the saga of Gran Admiral Thrawn hits book stores next month, on July 24th, and publisher Del Rey has released a new preview excerpt from the novel on StarWars.com.  Star Wars Thrawn: Alliances is written by Timothy Zahn and takes place following the events of Zahn's 2016 novel Thrawn and during the events of the animated series Star Wars Rebels.  The new preview excerpt features a flashback to the Clone Wars when Thrawn first meets Anakin Skywalker.  Also revealed is new art features Thrawn and Anakin which be featured as the cover of the San Diego Comic Con exclusive version of the novel.  You can check out the art and read part of the excerpt below,

Batuu, The Planet From "Galaxy's Edge", Will Be Featured In "Thrawn: Alliances"

Lucasfilm has released a new preview excerpt for Timothy Zahn's upcoming novel Star Wars--Thrawn: Alliances and that preview reveals a connection between the book and the upcoming theme parks Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge, opening at Disneyland in California and Disney World in Florida in 2019.  In the preview, Emperor Palpatine briefs Darth Vader and Grand Admiral Thrawn on their upcoming mission to the planet Batuu, the planet where Galaxy's Edge will be set (the theme park aims to give fans as close to an "in-universe" experience as possible).  You can read part of the excerpt below,

'Thrawn: Alliances' Release Delayed to July 24th

The sequel to Timothy Zahn's novel Star Wars: Thrawn has been delayed by less than a month.  The novel, titled Thrawn: Alliances, is now slated for a July 24th, 2018 release date (it had previously been scheduled to be released on June 26th). The release date change was noted in publisher Penguin Random House's official online catalogue.

Cover For Tim Zahn's 'Thrawn: Alliances' Revealed

Lucasfilm and Del Rey Publishing have revealed the cover for Timothy Zahn's upcoming novel Star Wars: Thrawn--Alliances.  The novel is a follow-up to Star Wars: Thrawn which was released earlier this year.  The new novel will see Grand Admiral Thrawn teaming up with the dark lord of the sith Darth Vader, and the cover reflects this pairing.  Vader and Thrawn are featured standing together on the cover of the novel, which will be released in hardcover next year.  Check it out below,

NYCC Lucasfilm Publishing Panel Recap

Earlier today at New York Comic Con, Lucasfilm hosted a special panel focused on their upcoming books and comics.  The panel was moderated by Michael Siglain, the creative director of Lucasfilm publishing, and featured eleven authors who had written Star Wars books and comics.  The authors discussed their history with Star Wars and shared some behind the scenes stories about working on Star Wars.  Below are my tweets from the panel.

Timothy Zahn Announces 'Thrawn: Alliances' at NYCC

Lucasfilm publishing and author Timothy Zahn announced a sequel novel to Zahn's novel Star Wars: Thrawn, which was released earlier this year, to an excited crowd at New York Comic Con today.  The sequel is titled Star Wars--Thrawn: Alliances and will hit shelves in the summer of 2018.  Alliances will also feature Darth Vader in a primary role.  No cover art or specific release date were available at this time.

Behind the Scenes Clip From the 'Star Wars Rebels' Season Three Blu-Ray About the Return of Thrawn

The blu-ray box set of season three of Star Wars Rebels will be released next week, and in anticipation Nerdist has released a preview clip of the behind the scenes bonus features that will be available on the box set.  The clip is a behind the scenes look at the return of Grand Admiral Thrawn to the Star Wars galaxy and features a fly on the wall look at the moment members of the Lucasfilm story group told author Timothy Zahn (who created the character for 1991's Star Wars: Heir to the Empire) that they would be adapting Thrawn for Rebels.  Check it out below,

'The Star Wars Show' Extended Interview With Timothy Zahn

The British-based newspaper company have released an extract from the opening chapter of the novel which describes the very first moment in which the future Grand Admiral was introduced to the Star Wars galaxy.

Del Rey Unveils Celebration Exclusive Edition of 'Star Wars: Thrawn'

There is a lot of excitement in the Star Wars community for the upcoming novel Star Wars: Thrawn by Timothy Zahn.  The novel's release date, April 11th, is just a few days before Star Wars Celebration in Orlando, taking place from April 13-16.  Given the proximity of the release date to the convention, publisher Del Rey announced they will have special limited edition of the novel that will only be available at Celebration.  The content of the novel will be the same, but the Celebration edition will feature a special cover and fans who buy a copy will receive a still to be announced additional gift.  Check out the cover below,

First Excerpt From 'Star Wars: Thrawn' Released

Del Rey Books and Lucasfilm publishing have released the first preview excerpt from the highly anticipated novel Star Wars: Thrawn.  The novel is written by Timothy Zahn, and tells the canon backstory of the villain Grand Admiral Thrawn.  Zahn created the character back in the 1990s for the novel Star Wars: Heir to the Empire, which brought Star Wars back to the bookshelves after a several year absence.  Though those novels were rendered non-canon ("Legends"), the character's popularity led to him being introduced into the new canon the third season of the animated series Star Wars Rebels (where he voiced by House of Cards star Lars Mikkelsen).
