BREAKING: 'Star Wars Rebels' Season 3 To Premiere This September

By Ciaran Duggan,

Lucasfilm and Disney have announced the premiere date of the third season of the hit animated TV series, Star Wars Rebels. Season three will hit TV screens on September 24 at 8:30PM ET/PT. Take a read of the full press transcript down below:

The show has changed the day the show airs each season. Season one aired on Mondays and season two on Wednesdays. Now the show has slotted into a prime time Saturday slot, which reflects the rise of Rebels as a mainstream children's animated series.

In addition to this announcement, Making Star Wars have learnt more information about the title and description of the Season 3 premiere. The episode will be named "Steps into Shadow" and like the previous Rebels premieres - Spark of Rebellion & Siege of Lothal - will be an hour-long special. Read the official description for the episode down below:

"Having established a secret base on Atollon, the Ghost Crew, now led by a more powerful Ezra, strengthens the rebel fleet by acquiring new resources and recruits eager to stand against the Empire. However, the Imperial efforts to eliminate the rebellion are now being led by the coldly analytical Grand Admiral Thrawn, whose strategic, tactical and cultural insights make him a treat unlike any they have faced before. In season three, Ezra and Sabine take on new roles and challenges, as the rebels prepare for their biggest mission yet - a direct assault on the Empire."

William Shatner Acclaims "Star Wars" For Creating "Star Trek"

By Ciaran Duggan,

"First of all, 'Star Wars' created  'Star Trek.' You know that?"

William Shatner is at it again! Thousands of Star Trek fans attended Shatner's talk at last week's Star Trek convention in Las Vegas. They listened to and gasped in disbelief at Shatner's comments relating Star Trek's success to the sci-fi classic, Star Wars.  If Shatner meant what he said on a factual basis, it was clearly factually inaccurate. 'Star Trek' aired from 1966 to 1969 on Television, whilst 'Star Wars' was screened in movie theatres in 1977. But how on earth did Shatner justify his claim at a 'Star Trek' convention?

"The blockbuster success of George Lucas's "Star Wars" film brought "Star Trek" back to life. Every year there was the threat to be canceled. The third year, we canceled and, everybody acccepted it. But then "Star Wars: A New Hope" made a mind-blowing $775 million at the box office. At Paramount Studios they were running around bumping into each other. 'What do we got? What do we got to equal 'Star Wars?' This is a big thing! There was this thing that we canceled, under another management, it was called Star....Trek? Let's resurrect that!"

So, in Shatner's mind, how did Star Wars rejuvinate the Star Trek franchise?

"It was 'Star Wars' that thrust 'Star Trek' into the people of Paramount's consciousness"

Is Shatner right with his assessment? Of course, it is fair to say that there was a revival in the Star Trek saga post-1977. 13 Hollywood movies and 624 episodes appeared in movie theatres and network television respectively over the coming decades. Star Trek definitely remains a massive force in the Hollywood box office today, as exhibited with the recent mid-July release of 'Star Trek Beyond', which has grossed close to $200 million.

I will have to disagree with one final comment made by Shatner, however (and I would love to get people's views on this).

Shatner: "Star Trek at its best tells human stories. It's philosophical. There's humanity. There's a principle involved And it's well done. It's about people. "Star Wars" was grand, like opera. It was huge with great special effects. It was a marvelously entertaining film, but it wasn't specifically about the people the way those Star Trek movies were."

I think it's unfair to say that 'Star Wars' films fail to tell great 'human' stories. On a literal level, both of these films are based in far off worlds in outer-space, which bears little connection to the day to day activities of humans on Earth (i.e. fighting in space battles). At a deeper level however, I also think Shatner may have missed the point about 'Star Wars'. Yes fans love the special effects and the aesthetic spectacles the 'Star Wars' movies produce, but the fans also feel deep 'human' connections to the characters on screen. The Skywalker family is the connecting tissue of the Star Wars Saga. In a way, the underpinning crux of the movies revolve around the Skywalker heritage and the dynamic  relationship between Darth Vader (Anakin Skywalker) and his son Luke.

Without wanting to open a can of worms. What do you make of Shatner's comments? Do you agree or disagree with this controversial statement: 'Star Wars' created 'Star Trek'?

'Star Wars' Video Games Will Be Coming To Celebration Europe 2016

By Ciaran Duggan,

Today Lucasfilm have confirmed that Star Wars gaming will have a major presence at Star Wars Celebration Europe 2016 in London this summer.

Here are the list of gaming organisations that will be visiting Celebration in London:
- Star Wars Battlefront
- LEGO Star Wars: The Force Awakens
- Star Wars Commander
- Star Wars: Galaxy of Heroes
- Star Wars: The Old Republic
- Star Wars: Force Collection.

More details are set to be released with regards to the content and footage which will be released by these gaming companies. It would be fair to predict that there will be a gaming panel in London, based on the large presence of these organisations at Celebration.

Lucasfilm have stated this marks "the highest volume of gaming content" which has ever graced Celebration.

It seems like there is enough gaming content to increase both gamers and Star Wars fans alike.

Report: Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy Was Recommended 'Young Han Solo' By Spielberg and Coppola

By Ciaran Duggan,

A number of news outlets have reported that film directors, Stephen Spielberg and Francis Ford Coppola, reached out to 'Star Wars' producer Kathleen Kennedy and endorsed Alden Ehrenreich to play the iconic, scruffy-looking, nerf-herding, smuggler, in the new Young Han Solo movie.

The process of finding the young Han Solo was length and arduous for Disney, as they intended to choose an actor who really fit the bill. Disney met with well over 2,500 actors, in their attempts to cast the young Han Solo. By December, the candidates for the role had been narrowed to three actors:

- Jack Reynor (Transformers: Age of Extinction)
- Taron Egerton (Kingsman: The Secret Service & Eddie the Eagle)
- Alden Ehrenreich (Joel & Hail, Caesar!)

The timing of the release of Joel and Hail, Caesar was undoubtedly a key factor in Disney's decision to choose Mr. Ehrenreich. These breakthrough roles occurred  in the middle of Disney's search. However, The Hollywood Reporter have stated that the crucial factor which determined the final call was not the timing.

The Hollywood Reporter have declared that revered directors Steven Spielberg (Jurassic Park and Jaws) and The Godfather filmmaker, Francis Ford Coppola, reached out to Kathleen Kennedy and vouched for Alden Ehrenreich. The article reveals that Spielberg had previously seen Alden Ehrenreich in a bat mitzvah video, whilst Alden worked with Francis Ford Coppola in the actor's first two movies.

Of course this report remains unconfirmed, but there seems to be a certain level of credibility to this story because it has been picked up by so many renowned news outlets.

What are your thoughts on the casting of the young Han Solo?

New Marvel Comic Book One Shot Released - Star Wars: C-3PO

By Ciaran Duggan,

The highly anticipated new one-shot Marvel comic book hit stores yesterday - Star Wars: C-3PO.

In the latest film of the Star Wars Saga, The Force Awakens, C-3PO made a reappearance. Personality wise, he was the same Threepio that kids had grown up to love. His physical appearance however was distinctly different. C-3PO had a red arm, which had brought up a question among Star Wars fans. How and why did Threepio acquire a red arm? The answer to this question is set to be revealed in this new comic book one-shot installment. The one-shot has been written by an award-winning author, James Robinson, and the illustrations of the comic have been drawn up by a distinguished artist team, headed by Tony Harris.

The intention of this article is not to give any spoilers away about the comic. However, if you are intrigued about what the story of the comic book entails, you can check out a sneak preview below:

For more information about the comic, head over to StarWars.com. A direct link to the page can be found below.
