We still haven't seen season one of The Mandalorian, the new live action Star Wars series coming to Disney+ in November, and already work has begun on season two. Series executive producer Jon Favreau revealed during the summer that he was writing the second season, and now he has shared that he plans to step behind the camera for an episode. Favreau spoke about this decision, as well as why he didn't do so during season one, in a new interview with Entertainment Weekly.
Favreau said, "We’re working on season 2, writing, prepping with the directors and getting ready to direct myself, actually. I didn’t get a chance the last time around because I was doing Lion King. So I’ll step in for one of them."
He also addressed the possibility of characters from the old Star Wars Legends books and comics being brought into the series (with the question specifically pointing to Mara Jade and Grand Admiral Thrawn, though the latter has already been "canonized" by Star Wars Rebels). Favreau replied,
"I don’t want to talk about anything that might be fun for people to discover. We do have conversations. Part of what’s fun to see if we could merge the worlds of the original trilogy, the prequels, the sequels, The Clone Wars, and what’s been considered canon up to this point and what’s been considered part of Legends."
The Mandalorian is set following the events of Return of the Jedi and follows the adventures of a "lone gunfighter", as he navigates the galaxy in the post-Empire/early days of the New Republic. The series debuts on Disney+ on November 12th. If you haven't seen the new trailer, you can check it out below,
