We're just a matter of months away from the release of the first ever live action Star Wars series, The Mandalorian, debuting on Disney's new streaming service, Disney+. The series, which was written and executive produced by Iron Man and The Lion King director Jon Favreau, follows a Mandalorian bounty hunter in the post-Return of the Jedi galaxy. Season one of the show is in post-production right now, and clearly is very far along in the process. This week, Favreau took to his Instagram account to share that they were in the process of scoring the music for the first season of the show.
Favreau posted a picture of a "doodle" his fellow executive producer Dave Filoni (The Clone Wars, Star Wars Rebels) had done of an IG-series assassin droid on top of a soundboard. He confirmed in the caption that the picture was from a scoring season one of the show. Check it out below,
The score for the series was written by Academy Award winning composer Ludwig Göransson, who has previously written the music for the movies Black Panther, Creed, and Fruitvale Station, as well as for the TV series Community.
The first season of The Mandalorian will debut when Disney+ launches on November 12th. Fans at Star Wars Celebration back in April were treated to a short preview of the series, and fans attending D23 Expo next month will be able to check out another preview for the series. A second season of the series is also in development, which Favreau confirmed earlier this month.
Production began on The Mandalorian back in October, with shooting taking place in southern California, and wrapped in February. The series is set following the events of Return of the Jedi
and follows the adventures of a "lone gunfighter", played by Game of Thrones star Pedro Pascal, as he navigates the
galaxy in the post-Empire/early days of the New Republic. The series also stars Gina Carano (Deadpool), Nick Nolte (Affliction), Carl Weathers (Predator), Werner Herzog (Grizzly Man), Giancarlo Esposito (Breaking Bad), Emily Swallow (Supernatural), and Omid Abtahi (American Gods).
The first season is expected to consist of eight episodes. The episodes are written
by Favreau and directed by Filoni, Taika Waititi (Thor: Ragnarok), Bryce Dallas Howard, Deborah Chow (Better Call Saul), and Rick Famuyiwa (Dope). The series is executive produced by Favreau and Filoni, as well as Colin Wilson and Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy.
