Disney CEO Says A Third 'Star Wars' Live Action Series Is Coming To Disney+

With three years between the release of The Rise of Skywalker this December and the first Star Wars movie from David Benioff & D.B. Weiss in December 2022, much of the focus for Star Wars will shift to the small screen with multiple series expected to be released on Disney's upcoming streaming service, Disney+.  Three titles have already been announced (The Mandalorian, season seven of the animated series Star Wars: The Clone Wars, and an untitled Rogue One prequel series about Cassian Andor), and Disney CEO Bob Iger says at least one more is on the way.

Speaking today at the 6th Annual MoffettNathanson Media & Communications Summit, Iger revealed that a third live action Star Wars series (fourth overall, counting The Clone Wars) is in the works.  The news was first reported by Attractions Magazine, who live tweeted the event.
Back in February, reports that Lucasfilm was considering live action, Disney+ series' for nine different characters.  These included Princess Leia, Lando Calrissian, Qi'Ra, and Obi-Wan Kenobi.

The Kenobi rumor, in particular, seemed to have some weight behind it.  There have been rumors about a Kenobi movie, with Stephen Daldry having been rumored to be directing it. Now, with the Star Wars film release schedule having been pared-back, the rumors have shifted it to it potentially being a live action series. Beyond fan enthusiasm, the other thing the Kenobi project seems to have going for it is that Ewan McGregor (who played Kenobi in the prequel trilogy) has expressed an interest in returning to the character

Of course, the idea that the new series that Iger is teasing is the Kenobi series is pure speculation. And we may not know what the series actually is for a long time.  The Mandalorian is slated to debut on November 12th of this year (when Disney+ launches), The Clone Wars will be released in 2020, and the Cassian series is expected to launch in 2021.  Which is to say, there is a lot Star Wars content coming to Disney+ before we get to this third live action series (and there may even be another season of The Mandalorian in there as well) and Disney/Lucasfilm may not feel the need to actually announce what the next show is for a while.
