Bob Iger Shares What Happened With George Lucas And The Sequel Trilogy In New Memoir

Ever since the sequel trilogy films started being made, there have been questions about just how involved (or uninvolved) Star Wars creator George Lucas has been, as well as how Lucas truly feels about the new films.  Well, wonder no more.  Disney CEO Bob Iger recently released a new memoir, titled The Ride of a Lifetime: Lessons Learned from 15 Years as CEO of the Walt Disney Company, in which he discusses, in a fair amount of detail, exactly what went down with Lucas' involvement in the new Star Wars films.

Ming-Na Wen Joins The Cast Of 'The Mandalorian'

At long last, we're finally being treated to some awesome news from The Mandalorian! So far today we've gotten the first officially poster, and (hopefully) later tonight we'll see a new trailer. But that's not all!

Ming-Na Wen, who is perhaps best known for voicing the title character in the 1998 Disney animated film Mulan, as well as more recently portraying Agent Melinda May in Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., was inducted as a "Disney Legend" at the D23 Expo earlier today. During the ceremony Disney CEO Bob Iger mentioned that Wen will also have a role in The Mandalorian, as reported by our own Dominic Jones who was in attendance:

George Lucas, Mark Hamill, Harrison Ford, And More Attend the "Galaxy's Edge" Dedication Ceremony

Starting this Friday, fans will finally be able to step into Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge, the new themed land opening at Disneyland in California.  Earlier tonight, Disney held the dedication ceremony for Galaxy's Edge at Disneyland and it featured several fan favorite guests from the Star Wars saga.  The ceremony was hosted by Disney CEO Bob Iger, and featured appearances from Star Wars creator George Lucas, and original (and sequel) trilogy stars Mark Hamill, Harrison Ford, and Billy Dee Williams.

Disney CEO Says A Third 'Star Wars' Live Action Series Is Coming To Disney+

With three years between the release of The Rise of Skywalker this December and the first Star Wars movie from David Benioff & D.B. Weiss in December 2022, much of the focus for Star Wars will shift to the small screen with multiple series expected to be released on Disney's upcoming streaming service, Disney+.  Three titles have already been announced (The Mandalorian, season seven of the animated series Star Wars: The Clone Wars, and an untitled Rogue One prequel series about Cassian Andor), and Disney CEO Bob Iger says at least one more is on the way.

Bob Iger Confirms The 2022 'Star Wars' Movie Will Be Made By David Benioff & D.B. Weiss

Disney CEO Bob Iger has clarified the release schedule of future Star Wars movies today during a Q&A at the 6th Annual MoffettNathanson Media & Communications Summit. Last week, it was announced that the next Star Wars film, after The Rise of Skywalker, would be released in December 2022 (three years later) with more movies coming every other year until 2026. Today, during the Q&A, Iger revealed that this first film in 2022 would be made by Game of Thrones showrunners David Benioff and D.B. Weiss.

Bob Iger Says 'Star Wars' Movies Will Go On A Short "Hiatus" After 'Episode IX'

Back in September, Disney CEO Bob Iger promised there would be some slowdown when it comes to the Star Wars films, and today he's sticking to his word.  In an interview with Bloomberg TV, he reiterated that the Star Wars films would go on a short "hiatus" after Episode IX.  Iger explained, "We will take a pause, some time, and reset, because the Skywalker saga comes to an end with this ninth movie. There will be other Stars Wars movies, but there will be a bit of a hiatus."

EA CEO Provides A Brief Update On 'Jedi: Fallen Order'

These days, when it comes to Star Wars video games the news is rarely good.  There's been cancellations, and micro-transactions, and even more cancellations.  This pattern of bad news stories is something Electronic Arts (EA) is hoping will end when their next Star Wars project, Respawn Studio's Jedi: Fallen Order, hits shelves later this year. EA CEO Andrew Wilson gave a brief update on the game, speaking glowingly about a recent 20 minute demo he played, during the company's Q3 quarterly earnings call.

BREAKING: Diego Luna to Star in 'Rogue One' Live Action Prequel Series for Disney+

Disney CEO Bob Iger just announced that Rogue One: A Star Wars Story star Diego Luna will be reprising his role as Cassian Andor in an upcoming live action series which will debut on Disney + (the upcoming Disney streaming service).  The live action series will be a prequel to Rogue One (for obvious reasons) and will follow Cassian on his missions as a spy for the Rebel Alliance.  The untitled series will go into production next year.  No other casting or production news has been announced.

Bob Iger Says "Expect Some Slowdown" On 'Star Wars' Movies Going Forward

Following the disappointing box office returns of Solo: A Star Wars Story, there have been some questions about Disney's handling of Star Wars films of late.  Specifically, if they may have bit off more than they can chew by releasing two films just six months apart.  Disney CEO Bob Iger took responsibility for the decision and spoke in vague terms about how they are approaching making Star Wars films after Episode IX (hitting theaters in December 2019) in a new interview with The Hollywood Reporter.

Disney Releases Flyover Video of "Galaxy's Edge" Construction Site in Anaheim

This morning, Disney held their annual shareholders conference in Houston, Texas where they updated their shareholders on the progress of various projects they have in development.  During the event Disney CEO Bob Iger unveiled a special flyover video showing the construction site at Disneyland in Anaheim, California where Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge is being built.  Galaxy's Edge will be Disney's Star Wars-themed landed, opening at Disneyland and Florida's Disney World in 2019.  The land will be fully immersive, meaning visitors will get as close to an "in-universe" Star Wars experience as possible.  You can check out the video below,

JJ Abrams Pitched The Story of 'Episode IX' to Disney CEO Bob Iger Today

While most of the world is focused on Star Wars: The Last Jedi, which opened in US theaters today, behind the scenes the focus is already shifting to its sequel.  Disney CEO Bob Iger revealed yesterday that writer/director JJ Abrams would be pitching him the story of Star Wars Episode IX during a meeting today.  Iger revealed yesterday during a Q&A with shareholders regarding the announcement that Disney was purchasing 20th Century Fox for over $56 billion.

It's been a huge day for Star Wars.  Disney CEO Bob Iger has announced that a live action Star Wars series is in development for the upcoming Disney streaming service. The news follows the announcement that The Last Jedi writer-director Rian Johnson will be developing a new stand-alone trilogy of films (and writing and directing the first film).  Iger made the announcement during Disney's quarterly earnings call.

'Star Wars' Films Will Be Included on Disney's New Streaming Service

Last month Disney announced that they would pulling out of their current streaming deal with Netflix and moving their content to a new streaming service that they were developing in house.  After the announcement, Netflix revealed that there were still active discussions about a new deal that would keep Star Wars and Marvel films on their service.  Well, it looks like those talks went nowhere.

Well, it was fun while it lasted.  For Star Wars fans in the 21st century, the dream of having all the Star Wars films past, present, and future on Netflix looks like it will remain just that, a dream.  The Walt Disney Company announced today that they would be pulling out of their current streaming deal with Netflix and plans on launching their own streaming service in 2019.  It's not clear whether Disney's remaining 2017 and 2018 slate of films will be released on the platform.

Bob Iger Dodges Question About the Han Solo Film Being Delayed

The young Han Solo film has been in the news a lot lately and not always for the best reasons.  On Tuesday, Lucasfilm announced that the film would be moving forward without directors Phil Lord and Chris Miller, who had been working on the film since 2015 and had been shooting the movie since January.  Following Lord and Miller's departure (or firing, depending on who you ask), it was announced that Ron Howard would be taking over the directorial duties. on the film.  Production is currently on hiatus while Howard reviews the footage Lord and Miller shot, and is expected to resume filming on July 10th.

Disney CEO Says Leia's Role in 'The Last Jedi' Won't Be Changed

While the world still mourns the passing of Princess Leia actress Carrie Fisher, the creative team behind the Star Wars films has the difficult task of moving forward without her given that Leia was meant to have roles in the next two instalments in the Skywalker saga.  Fortunately, Fisher finished filming her scenes for Star Wars: Episode VIII The Last Jedi prior to her death so fans will get to her in her most iconic role one more time.  However, the question has been raised of whether or not the filmmakers would adjust the ending to The Last Jedi because of Fisher's death.
