After two failed attempts to open a museum in San Francisco and Chicago, George Lucas has finally decided to open the Lucas Museum of Narrative Art in Los Angeles, California. The decision was made after the museum's board of directors heard bids from San Francisco and LA, following a decision to bring the museum back to California after a disastrous experience attempting to open to the museum in Chicago. The LA museum will be built on a site in Exposition Park. You can read the official press release from the board below,
The museum will house Lucas' collection of popular culture artifacts, including many from Star Wars. This includes over 10,000 paintings by famous artists including Norman Rockwell and N.C. Wyeth. The Museum is said to cost $1 Billion, which Lucas will be funding himself. No word yet on when the museum will open.
