Next month Rogue One: A Star Wars Story will be revealed to the World, and with it comes a plethora of new characters, ships, creatures and more being introduced into the ever expanding universe. Among the new elements is the U-Wing fighter, which is a brand new starship that is part of the Rebel Alliance's fleet and will play a key role in the film.

Today, Entertainment Weekly's Anthony Breznican gave us a new look at the ship and revealed some fascinating details about the U-Wing. In the article, and an included video, Brezincan explains that the U-Wing is a mish-mash of different space craft seen previously in Star Wars. The forking mandibles on the front of the U-Wing are comparable to that of the Jedi Interceptors seen in Revenge Of The Sith, just as the cockpit and engines bear a striking resemblance to the Y-Wings and X-Wings of the Original Trilogy, respectively.

Reportedly, the reasoning behind the similarities between X-Wings, Y-Wings and U-Wings, according to executive producer John Knoll, is that all three ships were manufactured by the same company(The Incom Corporation).

You can read the full article from Breznican by clicking here, and you can watch the video below. You may also want to check out his previous piece exploring the Empire's TIE Striker.
