With just a month until the release of Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker in theaters, we can expect lots of exciting new looks at the film in the coming weeks. One place we can find new previews is in the next issue of Entertainment Weekly, which will have a cover story about the film within its pages. Today, EW released that entire cover story on their website, complete with new quotes from JJ Abrams, Daisy Ridley, and others, along with three new pictures from the film and three variant covers celebrating the entire saga (one for each trilogy).
The covers which will be available, can all be seen below,
In the cover story, written by EW's TV News Editor James Hibbard, writer/director JJ Abrams promised fans that what we have seen in the trailers and other previews is just the tip of the iceberg. Abrams explained, "The [trailers] that have come out are scratching the surface of what the movie is."
Meanwhile, Rey actress, Daisy Ridley spoke about the challenges of playing the character in the third installment in the sequel trilogy. She told EW, "It's a heavy story for Rey. There were days where I was
literally like, 'I can't do this, I'm so tired, I don't know if I can
like reach that emotion again.'"
One of the defining relationships of the sequel trilogy is that between Rey and Kylo Ren. Kylo actor Adam Driver addressed their relationship in the EW cover story, where he argued against putting any one label on their relationship. Driver said, "I don't think it’s all one thing. Part of the fun of playing
it is the boundaries of it keep changing. At times it's more intimate,
sometimes less intimate. Sometimes it’s codependent. And then it's,
obviously, adversarial."
EW also released three new images from the film, which you can see below,
