The whirlwind of amazing Star Wars news this week just doesn't seem to be stopping! Just moments ago Lucasfilm provided a huge update on the development of the upcoming Obi-Wan Kenobi series that was announced at D23 Expo last month.

The Hollywood Reporter broke the news, and now StarWars.com has confirmed that Deborah Chow has been selected to direct the Obi-Wan series, which will star Ewan McGregor who will be reprising Kenobi fully for the first time since Revenge Of The Sith. Chow's previous directorial credits include Better Call Saul, Jessica Jones, Reign and Mr. Robot. More recently she directed an episode of The Mandalorian, which is slated for release in November along with Disney+. In a statement, Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy sighted Deborah Chow's work on The Mandalorian as one of many reasons she was chosen to helm this new series:

“We really wanted to select a director who is able to explore both the quiet determination and rich mystique of Obi-Wan in a way that folds seamlessly into the Star Wars saga. Based on her phenomenal work developing our characters in The Mandalorian, I’m absolutely confident Deborah is the right director to tell this story.”

At D23 Expo Kennedy revealed that the scripts for the Kenobi series had already been written. Now StarWars.com reveals that the writer behind the scripts is Hossein Amini, who is best know for his work on Drive and The Alienist. Amini will be an executive producer alongside Deborah Chow, Ewan McGregor, Kathleen Kennedy, Tracey Seaward, and John Swartz, with Lucasfilm’s Executive Vice President Production Jason McGatlin serving as co-producer.

Not much else is currently known about the series other than it will be set eight years after the events of Episode III: Revenge Of The Sith, catching up with "Ben Kenobi" halfway through his self imposed exile on Tatooine. The series is expecting to begin production next year, and will debut on Disney+ sometime after.
