Fans of Star Wars: The Clone Wars should savour the seventh season of the series, which hits Disney+ in February 2020. Supervising director Dave Filoni was interviewed by IGN during D23 Expo this past weekend, and they asked about if there was potential for the series after the seventh season. They also inquired about the potential for characters that were created for the series, specifically highlighting Ahsoka Tano, making the jump to live action in the future.
Filoni seemed very firm in his answer that this will be the last season of the series, telling fans that they would understand why once they saw the season. "I think it feels proper and fitting," he explained. "I put a lot of thought into the end. I've really taken everything I've learned over the years, from George (Lucas) and now from Jon (Favreau), making The Mandalorian, and applied it. I'm very proud if it, but I think it's time to bring that chapter to a close."
The director also added the he felt the characters could live on beyond the series, which prompted a question regarding characters from the animated projects being brought into the live action films and series. When the character of Ahsoka was singled out, Filoni got very cagey, saying, "Yeah, you know, never say never. You never know. It's interesting, it's really interesting. We'll have to wait and see. I just want to tell stories and I have different mediums and different ways of doing them now. And if something works for that medium, if the right things come together, I don't see why not."
He went on to add, "The characters to me are the characters, they're as real in animation as they would be live action. I think the actors and the people that have brought the animation to life have done so so beautifully that the fans regard many of them in some cases in equal standing to their live action counterparts."
Filoni's silence before answering the question about live action Ahsoka is very intriguing. We know from the ending of Star Wars Rebels that she survives past Return of the Jedi, and with Filoni being involved with The Mandalorian, a series which is set in that era, the possibility of him directing the character he is most famous for developing in animation in live action is right there. Filoni's next project we'll be seeing is The Mandalorian, which hits Disney+ on November 12th. That will be followed shortly by The Clone Wars seventh, and apparently final, season in February 2020.
