The ongoing Star Wars comic book series from Marvel is about to reach a huge turning point in its story. StarWars.com announced today that the series' next major story arc, beginning with issue #68, will be an adventure that is set just before the events of The Empire Strikes Back. The July 10th issue will also see a new creative team being brought on board with Greg Pak taking over as writer and Phil Noto coming on as artist.
StarWars.com describes the story of this next arc, titled "Rebels and Rogues", as follows,
"The story finds Luke and his friends launching a desperate mission to
keep the Empire from finding the new rebel base, and sees our heroes off
on a three-pronged attack: Han and Leia go undercover in a noir world
of romance and danger, Luke and Artoo face off against the Executor in a single X-wing, and Chewie and Threepio (as unlikely a Star Wars duo as can be) team up for their own adventure."
The Star Wars comic series relaunched the Star Wars comics brand under Marvel back in 2015 and has been releasing new issues monthly. The story began several months after the events of A New Hope, and is now leading directly into The Empire Strikes Back. Pak will be the third author to tackle the series, taking over from Jason Aaron (who wrote the first 37 issues) and Kieron Gillen (who wrote issues 38-67). This is the second Star Wars series that Pak has written for, previously having penned the Age of Rebellion series. Noto, meanwhile, has done the art for the Chewbacca miniseries and the recently completed Poe Dameron series.
