(John Boyega and JJ Abrams at Star Wars Celebration in 2015) |

At long last, we know for sure when we'll see our first major preview of the upcoming film Star Wars Episode IX. Lucasfilm and Reedpop announced today, what we've all long suspected, that a panel previewing Episode IX with director JJ Abrams and Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy will be held on the Friday April 12th on the Celebration Stage at Star Wars Celebration Chicago. The panel will give fans a peak at the upcoming film and hopefully be the place where the first trailer is debuted.
This is the second time Abrams will have previewed a new Star Wars film at Celebration, having previewed The Force Awakens at Celebration Anaheim in 2015. At that panel, Abrams was joined by producer Kathleen Kennedy, and stars Daisy Ridley, John Boyega, Oscar Isaac, Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher, Anthony Daniels, and Peter Mayhew. The panel also saw the debut of the second teaser for the film.
Similar panels were held at Celebration London in 2016 and Celebration Orlando in 2017 to preview Rogue One and The Last Jedi, respectively. The panels followed a similar format, with directors Gareth Edwards and Rian Johnson being joined by Kennedy and members of the cast, and debuted new looks at the films (a behind the scenes reel in 2016 and a teaser trailer in 2017).

It seems likely that the 2019 panel will follow a similar format, with Abrams and Kennedy being joined by members of the cast to talk about the film, with new images being debuted during the discussion and the film's trailer being debuted to close out the panel. Both Ridley and Boyega were featured at the panels for The Force Awakens and The Last Jedi, so it seems likely that they will be back for Episode IX. Isaac, who was on the panel in 2015 but not 2017, also seems like a safe bet to make an appearance, given that he reportedly told a Chicago based reporter earlier this month that he would be at the convention.
