More big news just dropped from The Mandalorian! The upcoming series, which is written and executive produced by Jon Favreau, had its full cast confirmed last week, and today we have learned who will be providing the music for the first ever live-action Star Wars series.

StarWars.com has announced that composer Ludwig Göransson will be writing the score for The Mandalorian! Göransson is best known for his theatrical work on Fruitvale Station, Creed, Creed II, Venom, and garnered a Golden Globe Award along with Grammy nominations for his score for Black Panther. The composer's work in television includes the comedies New Girl and Community, and he has also worked with other musical talent such as  Haim, Chance The Rapper, and Lando Calrissian himself, Donald Glover(a.k.a Childish Gambino).

In a statement, Göransson expressed his excitement about applying his own music to a Galaxy far, far away:

“Words fail to express how surreal and humbling it feels to be invited into the Star Wars universe,” Göransson said. “I am deeply grateful to Jon Favreau and Disney for this opportunity and to John Williams for raising the bar so high with his iconic, intrepid scores — they will never be matched. In these next months I hope to honor the tradition of Star Wars’ musical landscape while propelling The Mandalorian into new and unchartered territory. And I will try to remember that there is no try.”

In the featurette below, you can watch Ludwig Göransson discuss his process in creating the musical score for Black Panther, which debuted earlier this year:

The Mandalorian stars Pedro Pascal in the title role alongside Gina Carano (Deadpool), Nick Nolte (Affliction), Carl Weathers (Predator), Werner Herzog (Grizzly Man), Giancarlo Esposito (Breaking Bad), Emily Swallow (Supernatural), and Omid Abtahi (American Gods). The series' first season, which is expected to be eight episodes in length, is written by executive producer Jon Favreau and directed by Dave Filoni (Star Wars: The Clone Wars), Taika Waititi (Thor: Ragnarok), Bryce Dallas Howard, Deborah Chow (Better Call Saul), and Rick Famuyiwa (Dope). The series is executive produced by Favreau and Filoni, as well as Colin Wilson and Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy. StarWars.com confirms that the series will debut on Disney+ in late 2019!
