The first season of the newest Star Wars animated series Star Wars Resistance is now in full swing, and so far has managed to garner much intrigue from kids and adults alike. The series is set prior to the events of Star Wars: The Force Awakens in a time when the First Order is still working in the shadows, and the fledgling Resistance is doing their best to stay ahead of their shadowy foes.
Early on it was unclear exactly how long before Episode VII Star Wars Resistance was set, but an investigating Twitter user seemed to confirm that the show would be set only six months before The Force Awakens. With a more definite timeline, fans have been speculating endlessly about what this could mean for the series' future. With such little time to deal with, would Resistance be a short lived series, or would it show the events of the Sequel Trilogy from a different point of view? It appears we now know the answer to that question.
Just recently, the official Star Wars YouTube channel released a new episode of "Resistance Rewind" which takes audiences behind the scenes of Star Wars Resistance with interviews with the creators. The video largely focuses on the First Order and its presence in the series, but towards the end we get some interesting info from executive producer Justin Ridge. Firstly, he confirms that the series is indeed positioned six months before The Force Awakens, and he also adds that Star Wars Resistance's story will indeed run alongside the story in the films:
"Because this series takes place six months before The Force Awakens we have a lot of connective tissue to what we see in the movie. So, eventually our events in the show will parallel what happens in the movie."

This is a pretty big bomb to drop in a seemingly inconsequential video and could mean big things for Star Wars Resistance. The confirmation that the series will not just be running up to, but through the events of The Force Awakens is really exciting. And considering that The Last Jedi is set immediately after Episode VIII, undoubtedly the climactic events of that film will also effect Kaz and his friends.
Speaking of Kazuda Xiono, we know Kaz is from Hosnian Prime, and his father, who we heard briefly in the premiere episode of Resistance, is a New Republic senator. Considering that the Hosnian system is annihilated by Starkiller Base in The Force Awakens, the implication that we will see Kaz's reaction to the loss of his home planet, and even his family, could be a very dark turn for a series that has so far been geared towards children. Furthermore, it's also possible that Resistance may move past the events of The Last Jedi, and could give us our first hints at what will happen in Star Wars: Episode IX even before we see the film.
Personally, this makes me much more intrigued about the future of the series, and I look forward to seeing where the rest of season one and future seasons take us.
