We're now just over 70 days away from the release of Solo: A Star Wars Story, and the behind the scenes teasers are beginning to reflect our closer proximity to the premiere. John Powell, who will be composing the score for Solo, did a little teasing himself today, along with director Ron Howard.
Earlier this afternoon on Facebook, Powell shared a photo of himself with the caption, "Scoring ‘Solo: A Star Wars Story’", signalling that work on the music had commenced:
In addition, Ron Howard also shared a photo on Twitter. This time, we get a bird's eye view of the orchestra Abbey Road Studios with the caption, "#abbeyroad exciting day as full orchestra begins recording #SoloAStarWarsStory Gr8 score under #JohnPowell including a new #HanSolo theme by #johnwilliams":

Powell will be scoring the entire film, minus a new theme for Han Solo, which is being penned by the legendary John Williams. John Powell is only the second composer to step into Williams' role to create music for live-action Star Wars films, the first being Michael Giacchino for Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. The trailers for Solo presented a very different type of Star Wars score, which included electric guitar riffs and the like. It will be interesting to hear what the final film will sound like, and if it will resemble the trailer music at all.
Solo: A Star Wars Story opens in theaters on May 25th, 2018 and stars Alden Ehrenreich (Hail Caesar!) as Han Solo, Donald Glover (Atlanta) as Lando Calrissian, Emilia Clarke (Game of Thrones) as Qi'Ra, Woody Harrelson (True Detective) as Beckett, Phoebe Waller-Bridge (Fleabag) as L3-37, Thandie Newton (Westworld) as Val, and Paul Bettany (The Avengers) as Dryden Vos. The film is directed by Ron Howard (A Beautiful Mind), with a script by Lawrence Kasdan (The Empire Strikes Back) and his son Jon Kasdan (The First Time).
