Rumor: More Details About the 'Solo' Trailer Roll Out (Updated!)

All eyes are on the Super Bowl this weekend to see if Lucasfilm and Disney will debut the first teaser trailer for Solo: A Star Wars Story during the game. While it is still not a certainty that a trailer will debut on Sunday, many signs point that way (including a report from The Hollywood Reporter last night). But there may be more to the reveal of the new Han Solo than just an ad during the game.  MakingStarWars.net is reporting that a second, extended version of the Solo trailer will be released online following it's debut during the game.

"When it comes to Solo: A Star Wars Story, a shorter version of the teaser will hit on the Super Bowl and a longer version of the teaser will follow shortly thereafter during the following week."

It's no surprise that Disney wouldn't want to debut a full teaser trailer during the game, given how expensive Super Bowl advertising time is ($5 million for just 30 seconds).  Keep in mind, the teaser trailers for both Rogue One and The Last Jedi were close to two minutes each.  The question I have is, how long after the Super Bowl teaser will we have to wait for the extended version? Star Wars Explained may have found the answer on Twitter,
Good Morning America has debuted Star Wars trailers in the past, so it makes perfect sense for them to debut the full Solo trailer.  ABC, which airs Good Morning America, is owned by Disney, meaning they won't have to pay an exorbitant fee for air time.  By doing things this way, Disney is able to put a Solo preview in front of the largest TV audience of the year (the Super Bowl) and then get people to tune into their network for the full trailer the next day.

The road to Solo has been a tumultuous one.  The film was announced back in 2015 with Phil Lord and Chris Miller as directors.  Then, almost two years later and after several months of filming, it was announced that Lord and Miller would be leaving the project.  They were replaced a few days later by Ron Howard, who began the process of re-shooting a large percentage of the film.  Filming finally concluded in October.

UPDATE: Solo director Ron Howard seems to have confirmed much of this story on Twitter.  First he tweeted a picture with the caption, "Midway thru a long flight. Back in the editing rooms now. Btw, who’s gonna win #SuperBowl2018 ?" This tweet appears to imply that the trailer will debut during the Super Bowl as predicted.  He then retweeted @StarWarsJunk, who posted, "Who cares I’m going to be watching GMA Monday. Need my rest", which to confirm that something more will be coming on Good Morning America the Monday after the Super Bowl.

Solo: A Star Wars Story hits theaters on May 25th, 2018 and stars Alden Ehrenreich (Hail Caesar!) as Han Solo, Donald Glover (Atlanta) as Lando Calrissian, Emilia Clarke (Game of Thrones), Woody Harrelson (True Detective), Phoebe Waller-Bridge (Fleabag), Thandie Newton (Westworld), and Paul Bettany (The Avengers).  The film is directed by Ron Howard (A Beautiful Mind), with a script by Lawrence Kasdan (The Empire Strikes Back) and his son Jon Kasdan (The First Time).

As always, this is just a rumor until confirmed or denied by Lucasfilm or Disney.
