'Solo' Trailer Expected to Debut During The Super Bowl

The wait for the next Star Wars trailer may finally be over.  The Hollywood Reporter is reporting that Disney will debut the first trailer for Solo: A Star Wars Story this Sunday during the Super Bowl.  The news comes from their "industry insiders." Other movies expected to have trailers during the big game include Black Panther, A Wrinkle In Time, and Jurassic World: The Fallen Kingdom.  Disney declined to comment when asked by The Hollywood Reporter.

The idea that a Solo trailer will debut during the Super Bowl is something that many fans have been predicting for some time now, given the fact that the film will be released in May (rather than December) and the fact that there has been next to no marketing for the film which, again, will be released in May!  The number of people who watch the Super Bowl makes it the perfect time for Disney and Lucasfilm to introduce the maximum number of people at once to the new Han Solo.

The road to Solo has been a tumultuous one.  The film was announced back in 2015 with Phil Lord and Chris Miller as directors.  Then, almost two years later and after several months of filming, it was announced that Lord and Miller would be leaving the project.  They were replaced a few days later by Ron Howard, who began the process of re-shooting a large percentage of the film.  Filming finally concluded in October.

Solo: A Star Wars Story hits theaters on May 25th, 2018 and stars Alden Ehrenreich (Hail Caesar!) as Han Solo, Donald Glover (Atlanta) as Lando Calrissian, Emilia Clarke (Game of Thrones), Woody Harrelson (True Detective), Phoebe Waller-Bridge (Fleabag), Thandie Newton (Westworld), and Paul Bettany (The Avengers).  The film is directed by Ron Howard (A Beautiful Mind), with a script by Lawrence Kasdan (The Empire Strikes Back) and his son Jon Kasdan (The First Time).
