While we're all focused on Star Wars: The Last Jedi, we needn't forget that we are just six months away from the next Star Wars movie, Solo: A Star Wars Story, hitting theaters on May 25th, 2018. The film is a stand alone adventure about the young Han Solo and takes place prior to the events of A New Hope. Outside of the cast and crew very little is known about the film, so new information is exciting whenever it comes in. The latest tidbit comes from actor Paul Bettany, who joined the project late after Michael K. Williams' role had be cut when he couldn't participate in the extensive reshoots that resulted from Ron Howard taking over directing duties from Phil Lord and Chris Miller five months into shooting.
Bettany told Total Film,
"It’s Han Solo’s story, and of course his story would be a caper. On one
level it’s a gangster movie. That’s really interesting, because it’s
within the canon but really different. It’s f**king Han Solo!"
Bettany has previously described his role as "an intergalactic gangster", so this new statement is very much in keeping with his past statements. It will be interesting to see what the tone of Solo winds up being given all the craziness that took place with the directors change. Fortunately we don't have to wait long.
Meanwhile, Solo director Ron Howard recently shared on Twitter that he had taken an afternoon off from editing his film to check out The Last Jedi in theaters. Howard shared his thoughts on the film, saying, "Great job @rianjohnson cast & crew. The paying crowd our family saw it with cheered & applauded"
