By Ciaran Duggan,

Star Wars director George Lucas was born in Modesto, California, on this day back in 1944.

The 73-year-old is best known as the creator of the Star Wars and Indiana Jones franchises and also the founder of Lucasfilm & Industrial Light and Magic.

In December 2016 the former Star Wars director's net worth amounted to $5.1 billion, even after selling the company he pioneered, Lucasfilm, to Disney in 2012 for $4.05 billion.

Mr. Lucas made a special guest appearance at Star Wars Celebration Orlando last month to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the cinematic release of Star Wars.

Fifteen years ago to the day the American filmmaker would also be celebrating the premiere of Star Wars: Attack of the Clones in London.
