'The Star Wars Show' Announces Spin Off YouTube Series

By Ciaran Duggan,

'The Star Wars Show' this week revealed a number of juicy pieces of news, including an exclusive first look at a new ship which we shall see in Rogue One. Andi Gutierrez and Peter Townley also announced a new Lucasfilm spin off series, named 'The Star Wars After Show', which will soon premiere on the Verizon YouTube channel.

The new show will be presented by regular hosts Andi and Peter, who will sit down with employees from Lucasfilm and discuss the most important Star Wars news stories of the week. Based on the short clips seen in the latest installment of the 'Star Wars Show', this series looks like it will be a roundtable discussion set in 'The Star Wars Show' studios.

I am intrigued by the idea of this show. 'The Star Wars Show' has only aired for three months and I think it has struggled to create a clear identity. Is the show just a 'news' based show? Are the guests who are interviewed supposed to be affiliated with Star Wars or merely pop culture in general? The exclusives are certainly a neat touch and I believe that this is what 'The Star Wars Show' should be all about. Hopefully the new 'After Show' will operate as a forum in which exclusive news content can be regularly disclosed by Lucasfilm, seeing as the guests will be members of the Lucasfilm team. On average, the viewership numbers of 'The Star Wars Show' show range from 45,000-100,000 per episode. For a new show, which has just 15 episodes to its name, that is a decent turn around and perhaps this is why Lucasfilm feel justified in setting up a new show which can attract more viewers and extend the presence of Lucasfilm and Disney's Star Wars on YouTube.

The 'Star Wars After Show 'will debut on August 4th (tomorrow) on the Verizon YouTube channel, with new episodes set to air every Thursday.

What are your hopes and expectations for the 'After Show'? Let us know in the comments below.
