Oscar Isaac Talks 'Episode VIII' With Rolling Stone

You may have noticed a familiar face on the cover of Rolling Stone magazine recently! Oscar Isaac, the actor behind Poe Dameron, A.K.A the "best frickin' pilot in the Galaxy", was featured prominently on the front of the latest issue(along with his Dog Moby) which also featured an in depth interview with Isaac. The extensive discussion delves into Oscar's personal life as well as his incredible career thus far. They talk about his early life and his rise to fame, as well as having the title role in the upcoming Marvel film "X-Men: Apocalypse". Of course, Star Wars came up in the conversation, particularly Episode VIII, which he is currently shooting. We grabbed some highlights from the interview which you can check out below.

First they briefly discussed Star Wars: The Force Awakens and how certain scenes, such as Poe and Kylo Ren's "So who talks first?" exchange was added in reshoots, and some were even improvised by Oscar himself. He added that they're "making s**t up" as they go.

Early in the production for The Force Awakens Poe was supposed to die early on in the film, but thanks a change of heart by the filmmakers, and some pleading from Oscar himself, Dameron lived to fight another day. But because the finished film included a death fake-out, Poe's screen time was cut short. Oscar teases that his character will have a bigger role this time around:

"In the new film, there's a lot more to do. What happens now is the heroes get tested. All three (Poe, Rey & Finn) of them get tested immensely."

He was also asked about Poe's Droid pal BB-8, to which he replied:

"BB-8's doing all right. BB-8 gets tested too! Everybody gets tested! It's the dark second chapter, but not really dark."

He also commented on the fact that his tenure as Poe in the Sequel Trilogy won't be ending anytime soon:

"It's the first time in my life when things have been mapped out for quite some time. I'm basically Star War-ring until 2020."

I highly recommend reading the full interview over at the Rolling Stone! Oscar will appear in Star Wars: Episode VIII alongside returning actors Daisy Ridley, John Boyega, Mark Hamill and more, along with brand new faces such as Laura Dern, Benicio Del Toro and Kelly Marie Tran. The film opens in theaters on December 15th, 2017.
