We may now know when the recently announced Star Wars Land theme parks will open. According to a new report from Inside the Magic, permit maps for the Star Wars and Toy Story expansions at Disney World in Orlando, Florida have leaked revealing that construction will begin in January 2016 and the parks would open in October 2018.
Star Wars Land was first announced back in August at the D23 Expo by Disney CEO Bob Iger. The park is 14-acre expansion of the Disney World and Disney Land Parks in Florida and California respectively. The park will exists "in-universe" with cast members portraying actual citizens of the galaxy. The setting is planet on the outer rim and attractions will include a Millennium Falcon ride that takes visitors into the middle of a battle between the First Order and the Resistance.
Hopefully this information turns out to be accurate and the park does indeed open by 2018. That being said I could also see Disney trying to align the opening of the park and the release of Star Wars Episode IX in theaters in May 2019 to maximizes cross-over publicity.
As always, this is just a rumor until confirmed or denied by Lucasfilm or Disney.
