Recently, massive steel structures have begun to take shape over the acres of dirt that currently occupies the area where the attraction will sit. The Disneyland construction site specifically has just hit a major milestone that puts it that much closer to completion.

'Episode VIII' Star Tours Adventure Announced, More 'Star Wars Land' Concept Art Revealed

By: Dominic Jones

The official Disney Parks blog announced to day that a new addition to Star Tours: The Adventures Continue, the popular Star Wars ride at the Disney Theme Parks, would be be getting another addition soon and that addition will be based on Star Wars Episode VIII.  The teams from Lucasfilm and Disney Imagineering are already at work on the new attraction.  No word on exactly when it will launch. An addition for The Force Awakens (taking fans on a tour of the star ship graveyard of Jakku) was added in December of last year to coincide with the film's release, so a December 2017 (the same month the film hits theaters) launch makes sense for the Episode VIII addition.

Construction is underway on the upcoming Star Wars park expansion coming to Disneyland and Disney World, and it is shaping up to be unlike anything else at the Disney Parks.  Mice Chat has revealed some new insider information about the two announced rides, a Millennium Falcon ride and a stormtrooper battle ride.  According to their sources, Disney is trying to make story a focus of the two rides, meaning the attractions will involve more than just the ride themselves, with passengers having to disembark and re-board the ride several, to tell a larger story.

New 'Star Wars Land' Concept Art Revealed

By: Benjamin Hart

There's a lot of excitement among Star Wars fans centered on the newest patch of development at Disney Parks. "Star Wars Land", as it is affectionately referred to by many, is a currently under construction 14-acre Star Wars-themed expansion to both Disneyland in California and Walt Disney World in Florida. This new land will be the largest single-themed area ever built at a Disney Park.

Today the Disney Parks Blog announced that a new piece of concept art from Star Wars Land has been unveiled at Disneyland. On the fence along Big Thunder Trail in Frontierland park guests can spot the concept art, which features a bird's eye view of the upcoming land and is full of Easter Eggs. That particular area in Frontierland will be an entry point for Star Wars Land, which promises to transport guests to a completely new planet in the Star Wars Galaxy.

For those who may not be able to make it out to Disneyland anytime soon, the Disney Parks Blog has shared the concept art online, which you can check out below:

Construction on both lands began back in April of this year, and it is still unclear when the area will officially open to guests.

Report: New Interactive Droids Being Tested At Disney Parks

By: Benjamin Hart

Disney theme parks have always been incredibly fun to visit, but these days it's getting even more fun with new Star Wars additions. Not only is the much anticipated "Star Wars Land" area under construction at both Disneyland and Disney World but they've also opened the new Star Wars Launch Bay exhibits in both parks. Inside the Launch Bays fans have been known to run into Star Wars characters such as Darth Vader, Kylo Ren and Chewbacca who are there for photo-ops and hugs(both regular and throat hugs). But a new revelation appears to confirm Disney is taking this concept a step further.

Gizmodo is reporting that some fans have encountered a new interactive Droid inside the exihbits. YouTube users DAPs Magic and Keith Lapinig both shared videos of a Droid named "Jake" in action. While the Droids's body appears to resemble that of an Astromech, Jake features a head that both rotates and pivots with various lights and sounds. As seen in the videos, Jake can roll around on its own and interacts with control panels that are placed throughout the Launch Bay and also appears to recognize and react to people around it as well. You can check out the videos below:

This development has led to speculation that Disney could be testing the Droids for use in Star Wars Land. The 14 acre area is said to be fully immersive and will feature not only realistic surroundings but also lots of various character populating it. These Droids would be very cool to see wandering about the area, and it would be especially exciting if they could interact with who and what is around them.

Speaking of Star Wars Land, an aerial view of Disneyland surfaced online earlier this week courtesy of @drdisneyland on Twitter(thanks to Anakin and his Angel for the heads up!). It gives us a great view of the progress on the addition:

Disney Releases 360 Degree Image of 'Star Wars Land' Groundbreaking

Construction is underway on "The Star Wars Experience" theme parks, also known as "Star Wars Land", at Disneyland in California and Disney World in Florida.  To celebrate the groundbreaking, Disney has released a 360 degree panoramic photo of the groundbreaking.  While there's not much to be seen in terms of the parks (they're still mostly just piles of dirt right now), fans will see several Star Wars characters and vehicles helping out in the construction.

Disney/Lucasfilm have been experimenting with 360 degree panoramic photo technology lately, having released 360 photos of the Millennium Falcon cockpit, an X-Wing cockpit, and the Star Wars: The Force Awakens creature shop.

Rumor: 'Star Wars Land' and 'Launch Bay' Updates

By: Dominic Jones

The Star Wars presence at the Disney Parks continues to expand as we race towards to opening of the Star Wars experience theme parks (known to fans as 'Star Wars Land'), for which construction is slated to begin later this year.  While Star Wars Land is still a few years away, currently there are plenty of Star Wars attractions at the parks, including the "Star Wars Launch Bay" exhibit.  Our friends at MakingStarWars.net have heard some cool info about what to expect at both Star Wars Land and "Launch Bay" in the not too distant future.  According to MSW,
  • Word is there might be some kind of big deal event for the construction of Star Wars Land ground breaking like they did for Avatar.
  • A behind the scenes feature for the Star Wars Launch Bay has been put together for Rogue One: A Star Wars Story.
  • The Marvel area above the Star Wars Launch Bay is being removed and the rumor is it may house a Star Wars Land preview area of some kind and additional Star Wars content.
  • Right now the plan is for the cantina in Star Wars Land to serve alcohol which is a big deal in the Disneyland park.
  • You won’t be able to see any visual elements of the Star Wars area until you enter so it’s complete immersion. You’ll exit Critter country and enter a narrow tunnel, coming out of it seeing massive buildings and X-Wings setting a dazzling tone.
  • A complicated laser system is in place that will allow them to project things into the sky that look like ships from the Star Wars galaxy.

Everything we hear about Star Wars Land sounds incredible.  I love that they are going for complete immersion in the Star Wars galaxy, and this idea about a laser system projecting ships into the sky is another exciting aspect to that.  As for "Launch Bay", I hope they keep it open indefinitely (at least until Star Wars Land opens).  With all the new films coming up there will plenty of new content that can be used to keep things fresh.

As always, this is just a rumor until confirmed or denied by Lucasfilm or Disney.

Video: First Look at 'Star Wars Land' From 'The Wonderful World of Disney' TV Special

By: Dominic Jones

During tonight's ABC special The Wonderful World of Disney, celebrating the 60th anniversary of Disneyland Harrison Ford, Han Solo himself, took the stage to present a first look at the new Star Wars theme parks opening at Disney World in Florida and Disneyland in California.  The video gives us a look at the Millennium Falcon ride, the attraction featuring a battle between the First Order and the Resistance, as well as concept art of the Cantina and dinner club.  This was immediately followed by Ford (with a little help from BB-8) introducing a special live performance of Star Wars music from all seven films. Check out the video below,

I continue to be excited by everything they're saying about Star Wars Land and love what I see in the concept art that's been released.  I will say, though, that I was hoping to see a little more revealed during the TV special (this was basically a reiteration of what we saw at D23 during the summer).  However, construction has yet to begin so I wouldn't expect to see much more from it until closer to the grand opening.

Are you excited by what we saw of Star Wars Land?  Let us know in the comments!

Filming has begun on the next instalment in the Star Wars saga.  Disney CEO Bob Iger confirmed during The Walt Disney Company's quarterly earnings call that Rian Johnson had begun filming on Star Wars Episode VIII, which is slated for a December 15th, 2017 release date, while also confirming that work had begun on Colin Trevorrow's Star Wars Episode IX.  Iger said,  “There is no better way to propel this franchise into the future than producing quality products.  Filming of Star Wars: Episode VIII, the next chapter of the legendary saga, has just commenced and it will be in theaters December 2017. And production of Episode IX, a 2019 release, has also begun.”

He also went on to give an update on Gareth Edward's Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, which hits theatres on December 16th.  Iger told shareholders,“Filming of Rogue One is virtually completed and we absolutely love what we’ve seen so far.  This is the first of a set of planned stand-alone stories and we’re already in preproduction on our next one, for release in May of 2018.”

And finally, Iger confirmed that construction on the Star Wars Land theme parks is expected to begin later this year.  Fans looking for a sneak peak at what to expect at the parks should tune into ABC on February 21st at 8pm ET for "The Wonderful World of Disney", which will feature Harrison Ford introducing a first look at some of the parks attractions.

Harrison Ford To Reveal New 'Star Wars Land' Details On Upcoming TV Special

By: Benjamin Hart

The long awaited "Star Wars Land" at Disney theme parks is finally becoming a reality and it looks as though we are about to learn more details about the upcoming attraction from none other than Han Solo himself. Entertainment Weekly is reporting that a Television special titled The Wonderful World of Disney is set to air on February 21st on ABC and Harrison Ford will appear to reveal at least some of Disney's plans for the 14-acre areas at both Walt Disney World in Orlando, Florida and Disneyland in Anaheim, California. Other stars including Josh Gad, Witney Carson and Elton John will also be appearing in the special.

Could we be getting our first looks at some of the rides that will be included in the expansion? Let's hope so. Aside from some concept art that was released last year at D23(some of which you can see above) we know very little about "Star Wars Land", which is a title tentatively applied to the project by fans. The attraction is said to be a fully immersive Star Wars experience, transporting visitors to a new planet in the Galaxy far, far away that's filled with various characters and a real Cantina. It will certainly be interesting to see what surprises Disney will have for us on February 21st.

Rumor: New Details About the Upcoming "Star Wars Land"

By: Dominic Jones

Among the many Star Wars things to be excited for in the next couple of years, near the top of the list is the upcoming "Star Wars Land" theme park coming to Disneyland in California and Disney World in Florida.  The park was announced back in August 2015 at the D23 Expo, and since then details have been sparse.  Our friends over MakingStarWars.net have gotten their hands on some of the attractions we can expect to see when the park opens in a few years.

According to MSW,

  • Poe Dameron’s black X-wing fighter will greet guests at the 3rd entrance to Star Wars Land, although an Episode VIII feature to the fighter might make it different from what we know about it from The Force Awakens.
  • Characters and creatures from Star Wars: Episode VIII will be featured in the park.
  • The Falcon will be real, life sized, not scaled down at all, and sitting on top of a launch pad.
  • The Falcon will be opening and closing its main door and aliens/ troopers will be walking around asking people if they’ve seen anyone leave the ship.
  • There will be two major attractions, one larger than “Toon Town” itself.
  • Don’t worry about not being able to go inside the Falcon. One of the major attractions will take care of that for you as you fly in the cockpit of the freighter itself.
  • The word is the Imagineers loved the Rogue One: A Star Wars Story script, but if that will come into play is still hazy. Initial word was the second major attraction would feature Rogue One content, but now that appears to be somewhat unlikely.

All of that sounds very exciting, it's cool to hear that content from both Episode VIII and Rogue One will be included.  Hopefully "Star Wars Land" is something that is constantly being updated to better reflect the evolving Star Wars universe as more films, TV shows, comic books, novels, and video games are released.

As always, this is just a rumor until confirmed or denied by Lucasfilm or Disney.

Rumor: What 'Star Tours' Updates to Expect & New 'Star Wars Land' Details

By: Dominic Jones

Big things are coming for Star Wars at the Disney Parks.  We know that a dedicated Star Wars Land theme park will be opening at Disneyland in California and Disney World in Florida in the not too distant future, but it seems we can also expect updates to the current Star Wars attraction, Star Tours: The Adventures Continue, before that!

Our friends at MakingStarWars.net are reporting that at least three new planets are being developed for Star Tours based on The Force Awakens and Episode VIII and that we can expect an attraction based on this year's Rogue One: A Star Wars Story in the upcoming Star Wars Land.  According to MSW,
  • Takodana and Starkiller Base are being added to the ride before we get “Star Wars Land” opening. That’s not really earth shattering news but there you have it.
  • An Episode VIII “sequence” is being planned as the capstone to these new Star Tours additions (for now).
  • Sources say Rogue One: A Star Wars Story will have a dedicated attraction in “Star Wars Land” but don’t rule out Rogue One for Star Tours just yet.
  • We can expect a “Star Wars Land” preview in the parks as well.
One thing is certain, exciting times lie ahead for Star Wars fans at the Disney Parks.
