J.J. Abrams: No New 'The Force Awakens' Footage To Be Shown At D23

With anticipation building for The Force Awakens it seems fans are always looking ahead to the next possible opportunity when we will get the next reveal from the film. Convetions are always hotspots of activity, both Star Wars Celebration Anaheim and San Diego Comic Con introduced amazing new footage from The Force Awakens, but it looks as though we'll be waiting a while longer for anything else. We can confirm that at least one upcoming convention will NOT reveal any new footage.

Disney's biennial D23 Expo is coming up later this week and fans have been excited about what might be revealed there since The Force Awakens was confirmed to have a presence there. Unfortunately, director J.J. Abrams has come out ahead of the event to quell any exceptions about new footage being revealed. Speaking with Entertainment Weekly he said:

“It is true, we are showing no footage, behind the scenes or otherwise. In the fall, there’ll be a trailer.”

But this doesn't mean D23 will be a disappointment. We're all well aware of the embargo that has been placed on any promotion of the next Star Wars film, Rogue One, due to the similarly named Mission Impossible: Rogue Nation. Now that that film has been released speculation is ramping up that the agreement between Disney and Paramount may have run it's course and Lucasfilm may now be free to promote the first Anthology film. We've seen set photos, so we can only assume Rogue One will begin filming soon, if it hasn't already. D23 would be a great opportunity to confirm some of the casting rumors we've heard, show off some concept art or even reveal that awesome teaser trailer that was shown at Celebration.

Keep it here on StarWarsUnderworld.com as we will have exclusive coverage of D23 coming up later this week!
