Marvel
Comics have predicted that they will distribute between 225,000 and 250,000
copies of the Star Wars series. A
series which lapses in the era between A
New Hope and The Empire Strikes Back,
focusing on the iconic OT characters fans have grown to love.
Since
January, over 5 million copies of Star
Wars comics have been circulated in the direct market by Marvel Comics and
has fast become the top-selling
single-issue comic book of this millennium; showcasing that the popularity
for Star Wars in comic book form
remains ever high. Consulting with ComicBook.com,
David Gabriel, SVP Print, Sales and Marketing, had this to say about the
projected sales numbers:
“When
Star Wars #1 was released at the beginning of the year we were thrilled at the
reception and the record-setting sales numbers. Once again, Star Wars continues
to skyrocket the Marvel name even higher with the anticipated pre-order
print-run between 200K and 250K units for Star Wars Vol 1 TPB. This is an unheard of
number, but given the success that we’ve had with Star Wars since January,
including the insurmountable 5MM units across all the Star Wars’ series, second
prints and overprints, we don’t see any issue in reaching such a number of
printed copies of this highly anticipated collected edition.”
An
exclusive preview of the up and coming title, Star Wars: Vader Down has also been released to ComicBook.com, in the form of art work. The first one can be viewed at the top of the article and the second can be seen down below.
