Report: EA Developing an Open World Star Wars Game

It would seem EA is developing a brand new open world Star Wars video game for the Next Gen consoles.  New job postings from EA Canada seem to confirm this as the company is looking for a new animation director, an executive producer, as well as a new Lead Combat designer for a new Star Wars game.

What the game could be is anyone's guess.  We know that EA's DICE studio is working on the new Battlefront game, and Bioware is continuing work on The Old Republic MMO.  If we look back at the original announcement of EA taking over the Star Wars brand, we see that a third studio, Visceral is also developing Star Wars games.  Could this be the game Visceral's been developing?  It seems unlikely as the job postings come from EA's Canadian Studio located in Vancouver British, Columbia, whereas Visceral is based out of Redwood Shores, California and Montreal, Quebec.

So it seems EA Canada could be in fact developing a third new Star Wars game (counting Battlefront and the yet unnamed Visceral title).  Lots could have changed in the months since the announcement and a fourth EA studio could have been given the rights to make a new game.  On the other hand the studio could have been assigned to assist on the Star Wars projects already in development at the other studios.  All that is pure speculation on my part.

So, are you excited at the prospect an open world Star Wars game?  And, what do you hope the is open world game is?  Let us know in the comments and/or on Facebook.

Big thanks to Jeffery White for bringing this to our attention!
