Earlier this year Star Wars fans were disappointed by the official announcement that the long anticipated cross-platform game Battlefront III was not going to be released. This even inspired a Facebook campaign to restart the project.

Recently Steve Ellis the co-founder of Free Radical Design, the company producing the game, told neoseeker.com that the sequel to the successful Battlefront franchise was all but finished when Lucasfilm decided to cancel the project.

"We had a 99% finished game that just needed bug fixing for release. It should have been our most successful game, but it was cancelled for financial reasons. I'm happy that people did at least get to see what we were working on and share the team's enthusiasm for it."

Despite the cancellation of Battlefront III, 2012 was still an exciting year for Star Wars gamers, with the release of Kinect Star Wars and the announcement of Star Wars 1313.
