2016 was a big year for actor Mads Mikkelsen. The Danish actor starred in two massive blockbusters, Doctor Strange and Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. Mikkelsen played Galen Erso in Rogue One, the man who designed the Death Star and planted the flaw Luke Skywalker would one day exploit to destroy the Empire's battle station.
Rogue One: A Star Wars Story star Mads Mikkelsen has unveiled the first look at a the first 3.75" action figure of his character Galen Erso. The figure is of Galen in the costume he wore on Eadu in during the film. The figure comes with several accessories, including an Imperial mouse droid. Check it out for yourself below,

Just ahead of world premiere of Rogue One: A Star Wars Story in Hollywood, just down the street the cast and director of the film appeared on Jimmy Kimmel Live. After "arriving" in an X-Wing parked on Hollywood boulevard, the group, which included Felicity Jones(Jyn Erso), Diego Luna(Cassian Andor), Alan Tudyk(K-2SO), Riz Ahmed(Bodhi Rook), Donnie Yen(Chirrut Îmwe), Mads Mikkelsen(Galen Erso), Ben Mendolsohn(Orson Krennic) and director Gareth Edwards, took the stage to discuss a variety of topics and reveal a duo of new clips from Rogue One.

With the release of Rogue One: A Star Wars Story now less than two weeks away(!), the internet has been flooded with interviews the cast and crew did various media outlets. The promotional machine behind Rogue One: A Star Wars Story is in full swing now, and the the wizards at Disney just came up with a truly remarkable way to spread the word about the film.
It was busy weekend for the cast of Rogue One: A Star Wars Story as the big press junket for the film took place in San Fransisco over the past few days. This has resulted in lots of new interviews with the cast and crew today. This included a big press conference (which you can listen to over at Full of Sith) and video and print interviews with cast and crew. Below are several of them.
Today in San Fransico the cast of Rogue One: A Star Wars Story gatherer at Lucasfilm to answer questions from select members of the movie press about the film. The event was hosted by The Star Wars Show's Andi Gutierrez and featured cast members Felicity Jones (Jyn Erso), Diego Luna (Cassian Andor), Riz Ahmed (Bodhi Rook), Mads Mikkelsen (Galen Erso), Alan Tudyk (K-2SO), and Donnie Yen (Chirut Imwe), and Ben Mendelsohn (Director Orson Krennic), as well as director Gareth Edwards, executive producer John Knoll, and Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy. Twitter announced today that they're teaming up with Lucasfilm and People Magazine on Friday December 2nd at 10am PST (1pm ET) to live stream a special Q&A event with the cast and crew of Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. The event will feature never before seen footage from the film. Fans can tweet their questions for the cast and crew to @starwars using the hashtag #AskRogueOne. Cast members Felicity Jones (Jyn Erso), Diego Luna (Cassian Andor), Donnie Yen (Chirut Imwe), Riz Ahmed (Bohdi Rook), Alan Tudyk (K-2SO), Ben Mendelsohn (Orson Krennic) and Mads Mikkelsen (Galen Erso) will be in attendance, as will director Gareth Edwards and Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy.

The cast of Rogue One: A Star Wars Story is chock full of some major talent, including the increasingly well know Mads Mikkelsen. 2016 has been a huge year for the Danish actor, who not only plays Galen Erso, the father of Jyn, in Rogue One, but is also portraying the villain Kaecilius in Marvel's newest blockbuster Doctor Strange.
One of the characters who got the spotlight in the latest trailer for Rogue One: A Star Wars Story was Mads Mikkelsen's Galen Erso. Mikkelsen sat down with IGN recently while promoting his role in Marvel's Doctor Strange, and the topic of Galen came up. IGN's Jim Vejvoda asked Mikkelsen about the guilt that Erso, who played a significant role in the construction of the Death Star, must feel. You can see Mikkelsen's response in the video below,
One of the standout characters in the recently released trailer for Rogue One: A Star Wars Story was Jyn's father and Death Star scientist Galen Erso. Actor Mads Mikkelsen, who portrays Galen in the film, spoke with GQ yesterday about Rogue One about his role and some of his costars.
Reshoots, reshoots, reshoots! That has been the word on the lips of many a Star Wars fan in relation to Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. People have voiced their concerns on what reshoots actually signify and whether it means that the tone and direction of the movie has been significantly altered as a result of the reshoots. This thesis is flawed and strictly untrue. This message has been made abundantly clear by the likes of Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy, Gareth Edwards and Mads Mikkelsen. I, for one, am glad to hear of the story broken by Digital Spy yesterday. They interviewed Mads Mikkelsen who confirmed that the reshoots were near completion:
Digital Spy: Have you been involved in the reshoots on Rogue One?
Mads Mikkelsen: Yes I have, and they be done soon I guess, so yes in a few days
Digitial Spy:Did that mess up your schedule at all, since you presumably weren't expecting them?
Mads Mikkelsen: No, it's kind of normal. In all the big-production films I've done so far, they have always called me back for little reshoots, it might be something that they want to change, the way we did it was wrong, or it might be something that they wanted to add so it's kind of a normal process on big films, they're covering all their bases.
Mikkelsen's comments will re-affirm the notion that reshoots are a part of the normal process of big film productions. In addition, his comments will help fans breathe a sigh of relief, as we discover that the reshoots are coming to a close. The final, official confirmation of the end to reshoots will be even sweeter.
Rogue One: A Star Wars Story star Mads Mikkelsen (Casino Royale, The Hunt) was promoting his upcoming film, the Danish comedy Men and Chicken, and of course the topic of Star Wars came up. Mikkelsen spoke with Yahoo! Movies' Ryan Leston about what it was like working with director Gareth Edwards on Rogue One. Mikkelsen, who plays Jyn Erso's (Felicity Jones) father Galen, had high praise for Edwards.
Mikkelsen said, "[Gareth Edwards’] vision was wonderful. He was a natural, man."
He went on to describe the vibe on set, saying,
"He tried to create this little space where it’s just, it’s real – that we’re actually making a real scene. And I think that’s the only thing we can do with it. We tried to take in the enormity of the Star Wars universe, while we were acting. We have to know it’s there of course, but we can’t act it – we have to make it real. He made us feel as if we were just doing a small, Danish show."
Mikkelsen also spoke about his scenes with Felicity Jones (though he didn't give away any spoilers!),
"I would give away spoilers if I told you what kinds of scenes I have
with [Felicity Jones]. But err… they are characters. They’re
not ‘character’ characters… but they all serve their purpose and we have
to be aware, obviously when you do a film like this, that it’s not your
show. You’re serving a purpose or you’re telling a story of someone
else, but you’re a part of it."
The headlines over the past few weeks have been dominated by headlines about the upcoming reshoots for this December's Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. Although initial reports suggested there was turmoil behind the scenes, it has since come out that these reshoots are no different than what you would expect on most films. While most members of the cast and crew have remained silent on the reports, Mads Mikkelsen commented on them in a recent interview with The Independent. Mikkelsen, who plays Jyn Erso's (Felicity Jones) father--reportedly named Galen--in the film, revealed that he would only be on set for one day of the four week shoot.
Mikkelsen said,
"I have one day. I can’t remember when, in two weeks I think. (...) Basically, all the big films I have done always have reshoots, it is part of their budget. They’re either not super happy with a scene bit, the way we were acting, or maybe there’s something they want to add. It’s not a new thing, it happens with every film. Whether it’s bigger or less, I have no idea, I have nothing to compare with. It’s the same film, it’s just adding little bits here and there to do the final polishing. That’s my feeling."

Yesterday, Rogue One: A Star Wars Story star Mads Mikkelsen revealed that he was playing the father of Felicity Jones' Jyn Erso in the film. Today, he revealed more details about the film, which hits theaters on December 16th, 2016, and his role in an interview with The Evening Standard.
First he revealed that Rogue One will feature flashbacks, saying,
“I spend a lot of time with [Jones] and she’s a wonderful actress. I
play her dad at the time of Felicity and I play her dad when she’s
younger, so we jump back and forth in time.”
He was also asked about the possibility of classic Star Wars characters appearing in Rogue One. Mikkelsen told The Evening Standard,
“Some of them – but I would reveal too much. There are iconic characters
in our film and also characters you have never heard of. It’s a mix.”
There have been lots of rumors about classic villains appearing in the film. We've already seen Mon Mothma in the trailer, so it seem possible that we might see some more classic Rebels in the film as well. It will also be interesting to see proper flashbacks (not just a Force-induced vision that includes flashbacks) in Star Wars film.
The hype surrounding Rogue One: A Star Wars Story has been skyrocketing since the release of that amazing trailer earlier this month. The footage revealed a great deal from the film, but several elements were noticeably absent. One of the biggest missing pieces was the character that Mads Mikkelsen will be playing. We've heard rumors about Mikklesen's role but no confirmations, until today. In a recent interview with Sky News the actor was asked about his upcoming film roles. which includes Rogue One and Marvel's Doctor Strange. While at first he seemed hesitant about divulging anything about Rogue One, he then proceeded to drop a vital piece of information about his character. Of course, some may consider the following to be a spoiler, so be warned; if you don't want to know anything about Rogue One, stop reading now, This is your official SPOILER WARNING.

Here's what Mikklesen had to say in regards to his feelings when he was first approached about the role:
"A little scared. I wasn't really sure if I was wearing a Stormtrooper outfit or anything like that at that point. I wasn't sure if I could fit into that. I read the script, it was very beautiful. And Felicity(Jones)'s playing this lovely, young, strong woman and I play her father."
And when asked if he could confirm if Darth Vader will appear in Rogue One, he replied:
"Yes I can, but I won't."

This revelation appears to confirm the aforementioned rumors that Mikkelsen and Jones' characters are related. The same rumors also state that his is a conflicted character who is involved with the construction of the Death Star but has a change of heart. We'll have to wait and see if those turn out to be true. Furthermore, it's worth noting that while signing Rogue One autographs at a convention last year, Mikkelsen added the name "Galen" to his signature, fueling speculation that it was his character's name. Is Madds Mikkelsen playing Galen Erso, the father of Jyne Erso? Id say it's all but confirmed now.

Mads Mikkelsen, star of the upcoming Star Wars Anthology film, Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, appeared at Fan Expo Canada this weekend in Toronto and my have divulged the name of the character he'll be playing the Gareth Edwards directed film. Our pals at RebelForce Radio posted an image sent to them by a listener of a Star Wars poster they'd had Mikkelsen sign. Notice anything interesting?

As I'm sure you noticed the name underlined is Galen. Is this Mikkelsen's character's name? It certainly seems so. The name Galen may be familiar to Star Wars fans as it was Starkiller's real name in the The Force Unleashed series. (The character was never referred to by this name in the video games, however the novelizations revealed that Starkiller's full name was Galen Marek). While The Force Unleashed has since been rendered "Legends" (non-canon), could this be a nod to the popular series? While it's an obscure reference, keep in mind that the first draft of the Rogue One script was written by Gary Whitta. And of all the writers currently working on Star Wars, Whitta seems the most likely to know this reference.
While this is pretty solid information, nothing is official until confirmed by Lucasfilm or Disney.

When it was announced that famed Danish actor Mads Mikkelsen was cast in Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, many people jumped to the conclusion that he would be playing a villain. Not so says the actor, who spoke with the Danish website Film Magisnet. While Mikkelsen couldn't say much, he did reveal that he is playing a good guy in the film. Here's what Mikkelsen had to say about Rogue One (translated from Danish),
But it is a big or a small role? - It is a very important role, as much I can say. But you're bad guy? - No, my character is actually not a bad guy, and then I can not say more. I am also quite game, and I can say that the movie be recorded in Iceland and England. And the recordings lasts for three months.
So there you have it, Mikkelsen has made it clear that he is not the villain of the movie. The speculation made sense given that Mikkelsen is best known for his villainous roles as Hannibal Lecter on Hannibal and as Le Chiffre in Casino Royale. That being said, Mikkelsen has incredible range and I would recommend folks seek out the Danish film The Hunt, where Mikkelsen plays a victim,to see that range on display.
This can also put an end to the speculation that Mikkelsen would be playing Imperial Admiral Montferrat, who first appeared in the "Blade Squadron" canon short story in Star Wars Insider (which has since been re-released on StarWars.com). Fans noticed that an illustration of Montferrat (above) looked suspiciously like Mikkelsen and began to wonder if Montferrat would make the jump to the silver screen with Mikkelsen playing him. Alas, it was not meant to be.
