With Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker hitting theaters in less than a month, the promotion for the film is in full swing. Director JJ Abrams has been out and about talking about the film, and has confirmed that the film is now finished. In two new interviews today, Abrams revealed the official runtime for the film, and told the story about how a copy of the script wound up on eBay. The interviews were conducted by EWLive on SiriusXM 109 and Good Morning America.
First, Abrams told EWLive that the final runtime for the film is 141 minutes (or 2 hours and 21 minutes). There has been much speculation about the runtime of The Rise of Skywalker, especially after John Williams' brother Don said in an interview that there was 135 minutes of music that had been written for the film.
This makes it the third longest Star Wars films after The Last Jedi (151 minutes) and Attack of the Clones (142 minutes). Revenge of the Sith is the fourth longest at 140 minutes, The Force Awakens, The Phantom Menace, and Rogue One were all 136 minutes long, Solo was 135 minutes, and Return of the Jedi is 131 minutes. The shortest Star Wars movies are A New Hope and The Empire Strikes Back at 121 and 124 minutes, respectively.
Abrams, who is notoriously spoiler-averse, also told a story about the script for The Rise of Skywalker nearly got sold on eBay. Apparently, one of the cast members (who remains nameless) hid their copy of the script under their bed only to have someone who was cleaning their house find it, take it, and give it to someone who tried to sell in on eBay. Fortunately, Disney lawyers were able to get the listing taken down (and the script returned) before it could be sold. You can see Abrams tell the story on Good Morning America below (he tells the story at around 2:40 in the clip),
