Few elements in the Star Wars Sequel Trilogy have inspired more intrigue and speculation than the Knights Of Ren. We were briefly introduced to these mysterious characters during the "Force back" scene in The Force Awakens, and aside from learning that Kylo Ren is their "master" we know next to nothing about them. And after they didn't even garner a mention in The Last Jedi, writer/director J.J. Abrams has made them relevant again by including them in The Rise Of Skywalker.
A behind the scenes photo from Vanity Fair confirmed the inclusion of the Knights Of Ren in Episode IX, and we've continued to learn more about their role in the film. Empire Magazine, who are slowly rolling out their next issue wish is dedicated to The Rise Of Skywalker, revealed a brand new photo of the Knights that are sure to add to the intrigue.
The photo gives us perhaps our best look yet at the Knights Of Ren, providing a closeup the helmeted villains as they stand in a line next to each other in a smoky environment:
In addition, Empire also released an excerpt of their interview with J.J. Abrams where he discusses his approach to following up The Last Jedi, seemingly dismissing any ideas that he would somehow undo any plot developments established by Rian Johnson:
“I never found myself trying to repair anything. If I had done VIII, I would have done things differently, just as Rian would have done things differently if he had done VII. But having worked on television series, I was accustomed to creating stories and characters that then were run by other people. If you’re willing to walk away from the thing that you created and you believe it’s in trustworthy hands, you have to accept that some of the decisions being made are not gonna be the same that you would make. And if you come back into it, you have to honor what’s been done.”
This issue of Empire Magazine will be hitting newsstands on October 3rd and will also feature interviews with Abrams' co-writer Chris Terrio and Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy.
