Disney announced this week that among the movies that will be previewed at this month's D23 Expo is Star Wars: Episode IX The Rise of Skywalker. The preview will take place on Saturday August 24th at 10am in Hall D23, alongside looks at other future Disney properties, including Frozen 2, Black Widow, and Jungle Cruise.  D23 Expo takes place at the Anaheim Convention Center from August 23rd to 25th.

This will be the second time a Star Wars movie has received a major preview at D23.  In 2015, Daisy Ridley, John Boyega, Oscar Isaac, Lupita Nyong'o, and Harrison Ford joined director JJ Abrams on stage to preview The Force Awakens.  At the event a special poster for artist Drew Struzan was revealed and given to all members of the audience.  Then, in 2017 The Last Jedi director Rian Johnson was joined by cast members Mark Hamill, Daisy Ridley, John Boyega, Gwendoline Christie and Kelly Marie Tran to preview the film and debut a new behind-the-scenes sizzle reel.

The Rise Of Skywalker won't be the only major Star Wars presence at this year's D23. A day earlier, The Mandalorian, the first Star Wars live action series coming to Disney+, will be previewed at the Disney+ panel at 3:30 PM in Hall D23.  The panel will feature appearances from executive producers Jon Favrau and Dave Filoni, as well as surprise guests, and a special preview of the series.

Lucasfilm will also have pavilion on the showfloor, which will feature the "Evolution of the Stormtrooper" exhibit that was also displayed at San Diego Comic Con this year.  Plus, you can bet the recently opened Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge theme park will also have a significant presence throughout the convention.

Star Wars Episode IX: The Rise of Skywalker hits theaters on December 20th, 2019.  The film is directed by JJ Abrams, with a script by Abrams and Chris Terio, and stars Daisy Ridley, Adam Driver, John Boyega, Oscar Isaac, Kelly Marie Tran, Mark Hamill, Billy Dee Williams, Keri Russell, Richard E. Grant, Naomi Ackie, Lupita Nyong'o, Domhnall Gleeson, Joonas Suotamo, and Carrie Fisher.
