Rian Johnson, the writer/director of Star Wars: The Last Jedi and the man behind an upcoming trilogy of films set outside the Skywalker saga, appeared at CinemaCon recently to promote his new film Knives Out. Afterwards, he was interviewed by Josh Horowitz of MTV News about his future in the galaxy far, far away. Johnson gave a brief update on his trilogy, and spoke about his anticipation for Episode IX, as well as the series of films from Game of Thrones showrunners David Benioff and D.B. Weiss. Check out the interview below,
.@rianjohnson is just as excited for J.J. Abram’s #StarWars Episode IX as we are, and he tells us at #CinemaCon he hopes that the directors keep taking the universe to new heights: “I want him to do stuff that I wasn’t expecting him to do” pic.twitter.com/D7Jh5SqgeT— MTV NEWS (@MTVNEWS) April 5, 2019
No word yet on when Johnson's first film in his trilogy will be released, however with the writer/director now focusing all his attention on the films it seems like things will start kicking into gear (relatively soon). Luckily, there will lots of Star Wars content (Episode IX, The Mandalorian, The Clone Wars, etc.) between now and then.
