Filming on the final installment of the sequel trilogy, and the Skywalker saga in general, has finished principle photography. After six and a half months of shooting, director JJ Abrams took to Twitter to celebrate the completion of filming by sharing a picture of the film's stars Daisy Ridley, John Boyega, and Oscar Isaac all together on set (which appears to be from the location filming that took place in Jordan earlier this year).
Abrams tweeted,
It feels impossible, but today wrapped photography on Episode IX. There is no adequate way to thank this truly magical crew and cast. I’m forever indebted to you all. pic.twitter.com/138AprtFuZ— JJ Abrams (@jjabrams) February 15, 2019
John Boyega also shared the image, along with his own thoughts on filming coming to an end,
It's a bittersweet moment for fans and filmmakers alike, as the completion of shooting means we're that much closer to the end of the saga as we know it. It's been an incredible ride to bear witness to as fans, from the very first announcement of new films back in 2012 through the first bits of casting news, and then on to trailers, Celebrations, and premieres. The journey may be entering the home stretch, but there's still a long way to go, with ten months remaining until Episode IX hits theaters in December.
That’s a wrap on Star Wars episode 9 and the end to a chapter of my life that I couldn’t be more thankful for. What a process! It really has been a joy to be in these movies surrounded by amazing people. JJ thank you for making my dreams come true. pic.twitter.com/8b83vQKKDc— John Boyega (@JohnBoyega) February 15, 2019

Still no announcement of the film's title, that remains under wraps for the time being. As for when we can expect to see the first trailer, Star Wars Celebration Chicago is coming up in April and that has been the place where Episode IX's predecessors have debuted trailers (in 2015 and 2017).
