Rumor: Production Company Code Names For New Live Action Series & First Rian Johnson Trilogy Film Revealed

With Episode IX and season one of The Mandalorian wrapping production last week, the first minor details about the next Star Wars productions are beginning to make their way online. Fantha Tracks is reporting that Lucasfilm and Disney recently registered the names of the companies that will be used to produce two new projects (in an effort to disguise what they're working on), one film and one TV series.  The production company code names likely don't contain clues or hints about the content of the project, they're just fun to know.

First, they report that the name SERIES III PRODUCTIONS (UK) LIMITED was registered. This is believed to be a third live action Star Wars series for Disney+ (after The Mandalorian and the Cassian Andor prequel).  It's interesting that production on the TV series will take place in the UK, given that production on season one of The Mandalorian all took place in California.  Still, the UK has been the production hub for most Star Wars project since Disney took over Lucasfilm so I guess it shouldn't be much of surprise.  Last weekend, it was rumored that Lucasfilm was considering ten(!) characters who might headline a new live action series, perhaps one of those rumors might turn out to be true (the frontrunner at the moment, appears to be Obi-Wan Kenobi).

Fantha Tracks also reports that E&E INDUSTRIES (UK) LIMITED was also registered, and it is believed to be for the production on the first film in the trilogy that The Last Jedi writer/director Rian Johnson is overseeing. There has been much speculation lately about what the next Star Wars movie after Episode IX will be, whether it's part of the Rian Johnson trilogy or the series of films that Game of Thrones showrunners David Benioff and D.B. Weiss are working on. There had been whispers that the first Benioff and Weiss film would be next after Episode IX, although if this production code name is truly for a Rian Johnson film then maybe we should expect to see that first.

We should make it clear that these are not the code name for the projects themselves, but rather for the production company making the film.  Lucasfilm and Disney have done this for all previous films, with the reasoning being to hide what they are working on, so they can keep press and fans away, and to avoid having production equipment prices raised on them.  Previous examples include Foodles Productions (UK)  Limited for The Force Awakens and Carbonao Industries (UK) Limited for Episode IX.  Fantha Tracks has complete list of the all the production company codenames for all the Star Wars productions since 2015 here.

As always, this is just a rumor until confirmed or denied by Lucasfilm or Disney.
